Baby cakes. Awesome idea to make use of the little bits of leftover paint! I'd been putting bits in one of those pill box containers and having multiple colors to do dots and double-dip flowers. Kept my big containers cleaner. May have to rethink and try your idea.

I recently decided to make a travel kit when I had to leave my kit at home for our trip over the holidays. Our car was stuffed with Christmas presents, snow clothes and regular luggage. It just wouldn't fit and now I haven't painted for weeks!

Re: Mini travel paint set

Post by squiggle on Sun Mar 11, 2012 7:02 pm

I just made up a mini kit today after really needing one yesterday! I had painted at a restaurant's Grand Opening of their play place and packed up my big kit in my fat max and loaded it in my car. My family and I were eating at the restaurant (courtesy of the owner) and one of the waitresses asked me if I could paint a couple of little tiny girls who had come late. I wish I had had a mini kit because those little girls were cutey pies and would've made some awesome pics for my website! LOL

So today I took an old DFX pallet that was nearly empty and put a few splits and solid colors along with a #3 and #1 round and a 3/4" flat brush, and found an old makeup bag and put in a few sponges, a small poofer of white glitter, a tiny spray bottle, and a zip-lock bag of babywipes... I'll keep those in my purse so I'll be ready for any future face painting requests!

Thank you so much for sharing Squiggle - your little kit sounds perfect! Cool

I'd love 2 have a kit small enough that I could take everywhere I go. Sure I read that you can cut the handles of your brushes down so they fit into a mini kit - has anyone here done that???

Here is a pic of my mini-kit... I didn't have to cut the brushes down any. I found a makeup bag that was small enough to fit in my purse, but large enough to fit everything in. I actually keep the two round brushes inside the DFX pallet so that the points don't get bent LOL

I haven't had a chance to actually use it yet, but I can't wait!

Wow that sounds like a great idea!! I like the snap and lock cases from Joanns, They have a handle and you can stack as many as you can carry. I have brushes, sponges, H20 bottle, q tips and wipes, in one and splits, glitter and paints in the other. My lil one has to go to the park after her rec center classes and all her friends end up there, never thought of making it a practice spot..hmmm

Now how to make those tiny splits....

Here is the kit I came up with. I posted it on facebook a while back but, forgot to post it here too. [img][/img] I actually ended up putting my glitter and a few gems in a stackable container and added a bottle of glimmer body art glue because as you all know I love gems!! Very Happy

I now carry an old videotape case (the transparent clear kind that used to come on rental videos) with a boys rainbow cake, a girls rainbow cake, a standard rainbow, a black and white split, a spray bottle, a poofer, and a couple brushes and sponges. I can't wait to whip it out in public and make some WOWs happen.

Shawna and Dawn, whats your plan for cleaning the brushes in that little kit? Maybe a baby food jar full of water?

I have a mini spray bottle but yes, I'd say something like a baby food jar or some other type of small tupperware container that we could put water in. If I'm at a restaurant or even a park, most of the time there would be a water fountain to fill it with and then dump it so I wouldn't actually have to carry water. Haven't had a chance to try it out yet!

I have no problem with having a bottle of water in my bag, I usually do anyway in the summer. Oh oh oh what about one of those collapsible cups? Like for camping? I think there are ones with lids.

If you need to buy a kit, one way to get the basics is to go to Micheals with the 40% or 50% off coupon, and get the Klutz face painting book. Cut off the pallet, it is a wolfe basic. Has both white and black, then yellow, red, blue, green and orange. The book is 24.99, and it comes with a decent #2 or #4 round, so you really get your money's worth on a good little kit.

My mini kit has got me a job at my school after painting a few hands at the P&C meeting, calmed a frantic child in Docs waiting room and had some fun at the beach. It was a fishing takle box which now contains a few splits, solids, spongesand paper towel on one side and brushes, wet wipes, water and spray sanitizer on the other. 11.5cm x 7.5cm x 4cm (4.5in x 3in x 1.5 in)

Sorry about the sizes, must learn more about photo inserting!! You can see them better if you reduce your screen to 50%.

Went to speak to a few shops today about school holiday painting so was in my Fun Frog uniform. Passed a jewlery store with all the staff dressed as fairies so went in, one saw my glitter tatt, "Sorry I only have paint with me, would you like some to go with your costume?". Ten miuntes later ALL the staff (including teh manager) have been painted with rainbows, butterflies and roses. Several bussiness card passed out and a few to customers as well. As I visited a few other shops people ask about the shirt and I hand out cards. Embarassed
Mini kit advertising on the go!!! cheers
