Newbie Comparison: Snaz Vs. Tag

Post by kimmywizzie on Thu Apr 07, 2011 7:12 pm

I am a very new facepainter. But I'm addicted enough to start buying new paint. I started with all Snazaroo and then from reading on here I bought DFX white. Good choice... it lines much better. Then I bought my first rainbow split. WOW! Tag paint is AMAZING. ( Thanks Metina!) I wanted to show newbies the difference I found. I've been working on a one eyed butterfly to paint fast. The inspiration came from Daisy here on the site. I think she lives in Australia. She's an great artist and she has wonderful photography of her work.

The first one was one painted with Snaz and DFX white. I was trying to outline with white for the moms that didn't want to wash black off their kid's face. I used a homemade split of yellow, sparkle pink and the sorta purple they have in my kit.

Here it is

I put a lot of paint on the sponge and you can barely see the yellow. It gives you a very pastel look. I'm sure you could get it darker but when I show you the difference it's just amazing.

Today I got my Tag Rainbow Pearl Split from Metina.
I barely hit the sponge to the pad. I also used black today. Also, forgive my crappy linework. I have a long way to go in that department. Very Happy

So I'll be buying more Tag. I do still use Snaz Black. I may get brave but I've heard other blacks are a lot harder to get off than Snaz.

I also got some poofer bottle glitter today too. You really can't see it in the photos. How FUN!

As far as blacks go, paradise black is great. I've never had staining problems, and it doesn't get all gummy in the heat like snaz does. DFX black is also good. I have really pale skin, so it usually tries to stick on a bit, but a little moisturizer or baby oil before the second wash really helps get rid of it.

I left it on a few hours to see how it was with staining. It came right off. No problem at all.

What about the smell of the paradise? I've heard that it can sometimes bother people.

Honestly, it varies for different people. I have severe sensitivity to smells and it doesnt' bother me at all, but some people have problems with it.

Paradise black is the BOMB!! I love it, very creamy and dense. As far as the smell, I think it's worse in the palettes than in the singles. They add a little coconut or palm oil, so they slightly smell of coconuts, but I really like that smell, and have no problem with other ppl not liking it.

Beautiful! Love the pearl colours!

If you like the TAG paints then you will probably like the TAG black too. That is what I use on most people (although I use Snaz for bases and Wolfe for more detailed adult designs, I am not a fan of the texture of the pardise paints, its quite different to Tag and Snaz). I have no problem with it staining as it is only usually used for a small amount on the outlines. Its the blues and greens I am far more worried about with staining.

And for the record I do NOT come from Australia! Wink

I've used Wolfe, Snaz, and TAG black and I really like the TAG. I only used a little Wolfe but didn't see a huge difference between that and the TAG. Oh, and I've never had the TAG black stain. Greens & reds - yes, but not black.
