Everybody ooh and ahh

Post by Geekophile on Mon Apr 11, 2011 3:01 pm

The super neat part is that is comes stocked with all of these little rectangular organizers. I use them to hold my glitters and gems and even display my buisness cards! I put a drawer organizer (upside down) in the bottom compartment to raise the paints there. I punched holes into that and tied some ribbon "handles" so I could pull it in and out easily. Underneath is a piece of plastic (from an old tupperware that I lost the lid for) cut to size with more paints velcroed to it. That has hooks through it (made from paper clips!) and it hangs over the top of the lid. So I just open the case, pull out the drawer organizer and the paints stored under it, hang the paints, pop the organizer back in and get to painting. No upside-down paints. and it takes all of 30 seconds to put away. Love this thing!

That's cool!

My one question, though is: doesn't it get top heavy?

Not top heavy at all. Check out the back-- legs!
And another very cool thing is that when the handle is up (like shown in the first picture) the whole thing LOCKS wether the metal clasps are closed or not!! That means it is nearly impossible to get in a hurry and dump your paints! I got this one at Sears for $25. It's called a "cantilever" tool box or organizer. Home Depot has the one I really wanted. It is exactly the same only it is black and silver outside (the containers inside are yellow) A keter brand, but it was $30 and when I went to buy it for some reason they couldn't sell it to me! Maybe a recall?

I take all my lids off before my first gig on Saturday and don't replace lids till Monday. (well, there is one paint that I do cover each time because for some reason it has come loose from the bottom of the cake and will fall out if I don't!) It saves SO much time. And because this box is so awesome- no upsidedown wet paint! One of the reasons I like having all of my paints set up this way is that my paints are put away in 30 seconds. So there are no "just one more" faces. It also means I can paint right up to the last minute if I want to because I don't have to factor in extra time to repack my paints Very Happy

Each store carries a slightly different model. (they all work the same but colors/brands are different.) I didn't see the 18inch size @ Home Depot; only the 22 inch -which is a little big- But your store may have it. Let me know what you think.

Went to Home depot and they had the 22", HUGE! then I stopped at Lowe's and they had an 18" there but I felt so guilty that I didn't buy it. I need to get a few gigs and use my fat max for the 1st time and see how i like it, although I think it is way too heavy, I like to keep stuff in there thought LOL
What size is the one you got? Is that the 18"?

Yes, I have the 18 inch. It is holding 30 paints in their original containers. (don't ask me why, but I would feel weird if all of my paints were in other containers. It feels more, I dont' know, professional? to keep them in the original packaging.) I want a second one to keep all of my etc. in too. Then I won't be knocking over brushes to get to my glitter!

I would really like to see a bigger picture of your paints in the box and what you did with the drawer organizer, ribbon and old tupperware container.
Pretty please?? Smile
btw, I am as or even more anal LOL I got those rectangular containers and transferred a couple of my cakes and hated them, they looked really sloppy.
I love them for rainbow cakes though.

I'll take some detailed pics after the kids get tucked in. What do you think about those handy dividers? The small ones are just right for my biusness cards.

Re: Everybody ooh and ahh

Post by Geekophile on Wed Apr 13, 2011 10:01 pm

Ok, here it goes. This is going to be LONG- but remember, you asked for it!

1. It is all put together. Notice my ribbon handles.

2. Senora demonstrates the lifting technique.

3. All three layers.

4. The silverware divider tray from top and bottom. I bought it in Walmart. It measures approx. 6x15 in.

5. The last layer. THe "hang-y" layer. In the second picture you can see the bent paperclip (used a big one!) It is the shape of a square root symbol.

6. you can see that, because of the shape of the lid, the paints are able to hang securely.

7. And finally, some ideas for how to use those containers. I like having all my odds and ends contained on my table.

Don't know what's up with my cat lately either. She's been very needy and doesn't want to leave my side. Follows me around the house. Complains a lot. I think she's hitting kitty cat menopause or something.
