Re: Overcoming my own butterfly...

I've posted this before but I love this for a super super quick butterfly..
and I did this one today at a Becstar worshop and I'm pretty stoked with it but I can't claim it as mine as I just copied her design but with my dodgy beginner styles...

Re: Overcoming my own butterfly...

Jem- LOVE the shapes on those first ones. Those are awesome!
Michelle- You so crazy. XD Its funny how we are all our own worst critics.
By the by, I am now loving my butterflies! I didn't get any good shots of the recent ones I did, but they are soooooooooo much better than before, I think. Have to get pics sometime soon.

What a great thread, so many different butterflies, so beautiful.
Ashley, I wish my butterflies were anything near your early ones.

JBM - Those first 2 are the ideal butterflies I'm working towards. So clean, quick and cute.
Ashley - I really like a lot of the designs (so much variety!) but I'm strangely drawn to the flaming butterfly with skulls... It's so perfect in such a fun dark way.

I love this thread as I a not happy wth my butterflies. JBm, those 1st butterflies are perfect for getting through a busy line! Ashley, so many great designs. Do either of you ladies mind if I give these a try?
Re: Overcoming my own butterfly...
When I first started face painting butterflies where difficult because I did not know when to stop the painting of the wings. Too many times they went up straight from the nose or they went way into the airline. Over time I learned that I did not have to cover as much skin to get a cool look.
If you are having issues with this you might want to lay the color down with a medium size filbert brush or with a smoothie.
In my early days my line control sucked but once I got the hang of how to do the swirls and thin to thick lines and to know how much paint to load my brush it all starting coming together.
Here is an early image of a design I did back in 2005

And here is something more recent

For those of you coming to the convention and want to take your butterflies to the next level come to my Sunday class called 'Colorful Butterflies' I will demoing my simple designs first then showing how to do some really awesome designs later in the class. I am going to try and do 8 - 10 butterflies in the hour that they give me.

OMGOODNESS! Those are all gorgeous! I think butterflies are my favorite thing to paint but mine were good in my mind til I saw these. WOW! Good thing that I always strive to learn and grow or I might feel dis-couraged. LOL
