Southern Ohio FP jam

Post by eva on Tue Apr 12, 2011 12:16 pm

I have had some interest from a few of you to start a so oh jam. Can you guys help me come up with a central location for all of us. I have tried several cities for a central on mapquest. I can't seem to find something equal..It seems to put liz with the longest drive since she is west, Auntie M is northeast of me, and Jody is northeast.

Here is a link to our locations on a map...if it works
http://classic.mapquest.com/maps?1c=Hamilton&1s=OH&1y=US&1l=39.399399&1g=-84.561401&1v=CITY&2c=Gallipolis&2s=OH&2y=US&2l=38.8097&2g=-82.202499&2v=CITY#b/maps/m:map:6:39.246855:-83.381944::::::1:1:::::::::/l:::Hamilton:OH::US:39.399399:-84.561401:city::1:::/l:::Gallipolis:OH::US:38.8097:-82.202499:city::1:::/l:::South+Lebanon:OH::US:39.3708:-84.213303:city:Warren+County:1:::/l:::Xenia:OH::US:39.6847:-83.929703:city:Greene+County:1:::/io:1:::::f:no:en_US:M::/bl:/e

I am in south lebanon (by kings island), we have one in Gallipolis, Hamilton, and Xenia.

Gallipolis is about 2 hours from me, Hamilton 30 min, and xenia 45.

So Jody, Auntie M, and Liz what do you think? I think I am comfortable in driving up to an hour, if we are going to make this a couple hour thing. What driving time are you all comfortable with?

Anyone other locals on here interested in a jam?

I would like to just give you a heads up on my level. I am only maybe higher end of a beginner. I have no formal training and am self taught. Here is my facebook link..http://www.facebook.com/pages/South-Lebanon-OH/Angel-Faces-Facepainting-by-Eva-and-Jen/194323987260116#!/pages/South-Lebanon-OH/Angel-Faces-Facepainting-by-Eva-and-Jen/194323987260116?sk=photos
Please keep in mind some of these pics are trying to paint like 20 kids in an hour, or Jen and I doing like 200 in 3 hours, so the quality def suffers on some.

This is awesome!!!! I'm in Clarksville, just south of Wilmington. 45113 if a zipcode helps in mapquest.

I would love to jam, and I would be fine with an up to an hour drive if we're going to do this for a few hours.

www.mamayagas.com is my website, and I am ditto, Eva & Jen, on being self-taught. I started art school 12 years ago but had to drop out when my son became critically ill....12 years later here I am, still insatiably craving that art world, but totally loving the fun side and *not* the competitive world I might have ended up in...I'd be thrilled to make some extra money for the household coffers, but am under no delusions that I'd stop even if I don't make a dime. I'm thoroughly hooked.
Took a sec and looked you up on Facebook--you're doing great! And I would LOVE to have gone with you to Ronald McDonald house--that's one of my ambitions is to make enough at this to support hospital/clinic visits.
Can't wait to meet everyone--I know my parents got sick right around the time I heard from our painter in Xenia and any thoughts of that went right out of my mind...so this will be perfect.

My church is actually in clarksville, and the girl who paints with me is in orgenia so we are all close in distance. You are more than welcome to come with us next time we go, you can even paint out of our kits. It's where our hearts are. Sometimes we have ten kids show up and sometimes we have 30. Either way it's cool to spend the time with the families there. As soon as I schedule the new dates I will post them.

If we set up something for a Jam you are more than welcome to ride with me and Jen, and if Jen and I get together sooner than the jam to practice (She has four kids we torture with painting) then I will send you a PM

You can totally tell though, which ones I had hours to do at home and which ones I did in 5-10 minutes at an event. Smile Best laid plans and all....when you get a wiggly kid in front of you, it allllll goes out the window! I get the major brain freeze...I do okay, but I need so much more practice. I have a serious desire to learn face structure, too, so I can find it no matter whose face I'm looking at.
I have my own kit (I'm a little obsessed...ahem)....But I would LOVE to go! I have a friend who does balloons, too, and my daughter does photos. I know they'd all have fun with it. Which church do you go to?

That should have read "I have my own kit but that is so great that you'd let me paint from it." I know that's a huge deal among other painters, and I appreciate it. Just got a little distracted and lost that last part---but it was in my mind!

Oh It's ok. My kit has taken some major abuse. We do alot of outreach, so anyone who has experience with face paints, I will let use my kit (If I am in need of backup at that time). However, I do not let newbies use it at events, learned my lesson on that. My church actually keeps a nice kit for us to use for their events. I am due to buy a whole new set, so I am just gonna use these for outreach. I go to Fellowship of Praise on 22 &3. It's really the outskirt of clarksville, very close to Roadchester.

Jens family is ametuer clowns, they do simple balloons(flowers, dogs and swords). The more the merrier though, we would love it if your family joined us. On average nights at RMH we get a good amount of time to paint each child and take pictures. We do like dancing, some puppets, or skits. Then the painting clowning or ballooning. As soon as jen gets her daughters sball schedule we are gonna set up our new dates and I will let you know. Bring tissues, you are almost sure to cry with a family every time. Once we went for a couple months they families really opened up to us, but then again I am a crybaby, Jerry Springer Show could probably make me cry.

This is so exciting! I was lined up to paint at Children's Medical Center in Dayton before a flu outbreak at Halloween and need to call back to set up a time to visit. It would be fun to go with others.

I agree, an hour wouldn't be bad to drive.

I've done a couple office picnics and birthday parties. I'm not very fast, but have been 'collecting' supplies for several years now. Razz

Aww this awesome!! I will absolutely tell you as soon as I get dates. I am figuring the first one will be like end of may beginning of June. Maybe we can hook up before then go over. We usually book like a 7-8 pm slot. It depends on what's open, but it works well around day work schedules.

Auntie M, if that's too late for you driving, I can try to book an earlier, since you prob have the longest drive back, or we can try to book one at dayton RMH, instead of cinci. I am not opposed to booking one at each for a month, as long as I can find open volunteer dates on their schedule.

Cool. Is that always a weeknight? I'm usually off on Wednesdays. Dayton RMH would be closer! I'll have to find my contact at Children's.

I can email the event coordinator for cinci and ask for the contact info. I always usually do a weeknight, because they have much more people who want to volunteer on a weekend. Is Dayton cool for you Liz? We could carpool if needed, Jen has a minivan!!!

Dayton's good! We're about halfway in between, yeah? Carpooling is super, and I'm up for it. Sounds like fun!
Side note--anyone know any good local supply places for our goodies? I drove to Columbus for a while, but that gets old quick....

There is a place in loveland that sells snaz, ben nye, and maybe a few others. It's a little high, but good for emergency run outs. Costumecastle.com is the website. However I would call to see what they carry before I went. It's off the wards corner exit of 71.
