Online Promo Sites

Post by Lynnie on Fri Apr 22, 2011 9:28 pm

There are a tonne of these...GigMasters. GigSalad. PartyPop. Thumbtack.

I saw the thread from 2009 about GigMasters and how most of you thought it was worthless to invest in.

Thumbtack is...well...a pain. The ads that are on Craigslist are great except I've had issues when people want to book me through them. Contact info is filtered out of the messages I'm sent so I have to reply through the site. If the potential client doesn't check the site, then they don't get my message. I've had to track 3 down using investigation and finger crossing.

GigSalad has been pretty good for me. The odd thing with them is that I am getting a lot of work offers from Canada (I'm in the US about an hour from Niagara Falls).

I've not used PartyPop. Has anyone used it? Is it worth investing in?

I use Craigslist regularly and get perhaps 2 hits a month from that. I've not looked into Kajiji. How is that, for those who use it?

What else is out there that might be missing off the list?

I'm thinking about putting print ads in a local parent magazine. Anyone ever tried or had luck with print ads?

I like Party-pop, get a lot of calls from it--and one or two big out of state clients a year tend to cover the cost for me...

Kijiji.

GREAT, free and you get the inquiries from your ads directly.

I get inquiries almost daily and book up solid around Hallowween from my ads on Kijiji.

I like Gig Salad and you can narrow your miles down (I think) My friend Martha has a paid site and it's pretty nice and she gets lots of calls. I might do that soon.

I do know NOT to use the HotFrog free listing. I literally got 3 different foreign sales calls within one minute of adding a listing there.

When I complained and deleted the listing they said they had no ties with those types of companies...but online several other people had the same problem....almost like a bot was capturing the names as they uploaded.
