Building a website

Post by eva on Sun Apr 24, 2011 8:37 pm

I am very frustrated. I am trying to do a website by myself. The domain name I want is available. I am not sure where to host it. Any of you host somewhere that has website design templates that is reasonably priced? I am considering taking a 3 month starter on a cheap site to try to figure out how it works. My fear is that I will pay for it and hate how it works, or it won't have what I need. I can fool around with HTML a little, but by no means can design myself.

I use a free program called kompozer to make my site on my computer (you have access to the code but you don't have to design using it) then upload it to webs.com where I have a free site. I pay for my domain name, but the hosting is completely free. They have templates you can use, but there are ads on them, if you do an html site, there are no spaces for ads programmed into it, so all there is is a little button in the bottom corner of my site that says "make your own free site." it's not all flash-fancy or super web 2.0 or anything but I've managed to embed my facebook page, twitter feed and youtube channels on the index. It works well for me.

Thanks Perry, that's actually a huge help. I am gonna try it. I like your site. I have checked out alot and it's actually really good for a free site.

Thanks! It takes a LITTLE bit of copy and pasting code into the right places to get the embedded stuff, but it's not that bad.

yola.com is a great resource. You can purchase, create and host on their site.
