Special thanks Metina, for sharing your idea of the small box!!! I have two more awaiting more split colors, using the new method of stacking ; ) Can't have too many split cakes!!!

Where do I get one of those brush holders? That's what I'm looking for!

It is an ice cube tray... for making ice cubes to fit in bottles. I think people get them at Wal-Mart.
I can't see the point myself... but then, I don't re-use "dirty" brushes so sorting by the colour loaded on them is not an issue.

Wow - Fantastic work! Ya'll give me a great idea - on what to do with the extra paint left when the cake is almost gone... I can hand mold split cakes. I am so happy I found this forum.

Alicia- I really like your laptop mini splits!!!!! I prefer the laptops for professional pop open and being easy to clean and keep nice looking!!! Great idea - and I have a spare one in my extra supplies! hmmmmm evil thoughts even tho I should be finishing Christmas - not making splits and another pallette case setup!
Re: 2 Methods of Making Rainbow/ Split Cakes
This is great January stuff for the slow week. I think I need to start keeping a binder of all these great ideas so I can remember them all.
Re: 2 Methods of Making Rainbow/ Split Cakes
Alicia,
How often do you find you have to refill them? What method do you use to clean up? Baby wipes?

I just wipe with a clean sponge or facecloth. Beware cleaning paints with baby wipes, some brands react and cause a very nasty smell.
Re re-filling - well, how often do you refill your usual paints? Depends how busy it is, how deep i made them, which i use most, which are 'softer'...
I do re-squish them quite often as they wear unevenly ie the centre sinks a bit. So I use a clean palette knife or spoon to drag gently in from the edges, following the paint lines, to even it up.

Re: 2 Methods of Making Rainbow/ Split Cakes
Metina~ Sorry it has been a while since I have been on. I keep the plastic trash bag foam around the cakes clean by taking it off and wiping it with a babywipe if it is really dirty or I just wrap the wipe around my finger and spray it with a little water from my spray bottle. As for refilling it, I really have never had to. I have used this for a year and have only replaced the middle of my rose cake(the pink color) and my small rainbow needed to be replaced because it was running low but then I got the DFX small split cake so I have not done it. But it was easy to do. I like that I can have two sets of paint in there and only have to carry one case. I can now use the FPF bag I got at Fabbulas for parties because everything (and more!) fits!!!!!

Re: 2 Methods of Making Rainbow/ Split Cakes
Photomamma, those are ice tube trays found in the kitchen section of Walmart for under five bucks. Wont paint without it - a fantastic organizer of color dedicated brushes in a variety of sizes. I like that it has big holes for easy retrival and return of the brushes, esp when Im busy. I just aim the brush handle in the general direction of the proper hole, and it slips rite in.
Hope this helps,
Susan
