When does the need for more paint desire get quenched!!!

Post by MelindaT0813 on Sun May 08, 2011 10:37 pm

Serioulsy, $600 worth of paint is apparently NOT enough to keep me sated.

Mad

It started innocently enough....
Oh, I just need the basic colors.
Wait, what about dark blue?
and Light green? How will I make my split cakes with my inbetweenie colors...

Basic colors and most inbetweeinies: check

Gosh... Neons.... drool.....

Neons: Check

Oh GOSH!! THE METALLICS LOOK SO COOL Smile Smile

Metallics: Check

SO WHY DO I STILL WANT MORE!! Sad

I am drooling over the Pearls now...
Also, I want to buy another $120 pallet of neons and mettalics to cut up for split cakes.
I find myself secretly searching online every night for the best deals (Metina, why don't you take credit card No)
If my husband sees me come home with more paint he MIGHT just kill me.

He says "enough is enough Melinda!"
But I feel it isn't /cry

I mean I feel like i can do SO much more with a neon and metallic full split cake set (Like my regular color one)
and the pearl one!!! Did I mention drool!!!!!!
I am totally obsessed I suppose

Am I the only one?

Um, no.

I spend more on my facepaints than I admit to my husband. But I did show him my balance sheet that showed me in the black at the end of last year. Very Happy

You can pay with a credit card through Paypal, by the way. But don't tell your husband that I told you that, LOL.

And for what it's worth, I think the pearls are just metallics with a different name. Although, I may have to buy a bunch to make sure........... Rolling Eyes

Melinda, I have the same problem, luckily my husband does not know how much does a face paint cake cost, if I tell him they cost 20 bucks he would believe me lol
I also want to get more paint to cut for splits and leave the other ones complete, how bad is that LOL

hahaha like Isabelle said, Metina takes credit cards, you can tell your husband I told you but you have to tell me where you live first, just in case he wants to come talk to me. hehe.

I meant regular credit cards like mastercard or visa. I don't have a paypall account and my husband knows why I want one.. lol... and the answer is no. "We are not going to get a new credit card so you can spend more money on paint you don't need!"

I are sadded!!!! Crying or Very sad
I couldn't go to sleep last night planning which metallic and neon splits I am going to make
I need to get a hobby

You HAVE a hobby! LOL AND a passion! I also am inflicted with 'igottahavethatonetoo'! It's not fatal, but when new and kool products come out or are brought to my attention, it flares up again.

I'm fine but my bottom line is wimpering!! Very Happy

When does the need for more paint desire get quenched!!!

Post by lclark on Mon May 09, 2011 9:03 am

Okay let's be totally honest this passion is addicting, but I love it. I am just starting out with purchasing but want to buy more. Holding off til FABAIC hoping to get a look at all these products everyone keeps talking about.

I find that my husband really doesn't want to know prices as long as rainbow cakes aren't being served for dessert. LOL Of course he would like one of my hobbies to actually bring in money instead of costing him money. I tell him it's the price of being married to an artistic soul.

just an fyi... When you go to check out and you get all of the way to the paypal screen and there is an option to pay with a credit card instead of paypal.

yeahhh... I know what you mean... I told myself I could happily start up my face painting again without cost because I had snaz and brushes from 'before'...but then I found this forum and learned about allllllllll the wonderful new things out since 12 years ago... and just placed a huge order (well, huge for me and what I could (not really) afford...*sigh*) a few days ago...

but three things make me happy:

1) NEW PAINTS and things to play with and explore!
2) I Just got a notification that Metina is refunding me some of the shipping cost - THANKS METINA - YOU ROCK!
3) No husband (any more) to have to hide things from Very Happy

Happy paint-splitting!

Re: When does the need for more paint desire get quenched!!!

Post by JBM on Mon May 09, 2011 7:12 pm

For me face painting is my business. As a stay at home mum it is my choice to work 2 days on the weekend when my son can be with his dad and not in a crowded day care. Any other job I would have to work up to 4 days to make the same money I make in 2 painting. And it wouldn't be as fun. So although it is really difficult and really painful I have to control paint buying urges. Especially when I see something cool on this forum and the want sets in.

It took me over a week to do my last order. I'd fill my basket, look at the cost, freak out, whittle it down then wait hoping somehow I'd win lotto and be able to buy it all. So then I entered my last few months trading into excel (I keep paper and computer records as I still believe my computer could gobble my info at any time...) When I came out not only in the black but very much in the black and I've only added the face painting in in the last 6 months (used to be just henna) I was inspired to stay frugal. Yes when the order arrived there was a pang as the pearl rainbow cake didn't make the cut but I have a neon, sparkle and one stroke rainbow so it wasn't a need, just a greed. My DH is super supportive of my business and never questions when I buy new paint because he knows I go through this process every time and always end up getting just what I need not everything I greed.

If it was just a hobby and I was working outside the home maybe I would buy more but for me it is all about dollars and sense. New paint or dinner for the family?? And I suppose I'm lucky that I have a job that I love - to the extent that if I won lotto I'd spend the money buying more cool stuff to use at work rather than quitting work cause I hate it....

I am having this problem at the moment. I used to think I had quite a bit but seeing other set ups on the forum....I NEED MORE!! I have a couple of nice gigs coming this weekend, think I need a little something from the forum shop. Wink Just a bit. Shhhhhhhh! Cool

I have realized that I don't like seeing the bottom show through my paints and I don't like having half cakes where I have split them. I am a bit OCD I believe though. LOL

I guess that is the difference.
My penny pinching husband thinks of me painting as a part time job.
On the other hand, I see it as the coolest, funnest and most expensive hobby out there.... that just HAPPENS to make money too Smile

hmm I kinda see it through his eyes now...
Food on the table or paint I greed : /
meanwhile, from my prospective... "oohh! Shinny!! Pretty!!! MINE!!!!"

He has always been a tightwad-I mean a financially prudent individual(yes he calls himself that). He even became an accountant for goodness sakes! I joke that instead of a Mormon his mother raised a "Judido arrepentido" ((a regretful jew?Yeah, that Doesn't translate well. But it means like he is forsaking his true hidden jewish penny pinching heritage)) (((Man, I reread that and it sounds really racist rofl.... hope you all can read it in the good humor it is intended)))
I digress... I feel bad that it makes him uncomfortable for me to spend money on paint.... however, not bad enough not to spend it

lol!

For sure! the only Spanish words my very American husband knows are names for the food I make. If he would like to choose what he gets for dinner, he needs to be able to ask for it!
