I said NO to a NUN!

Post by Amanda on Fri May 20, 2011 9:37 pm

So tonight I had my very first repeat gig. This event is a little community fair night put on by a small catholic church/school. It was my very first real gig last year! I remember I stayed like 30 minutes late because I had no idea how to control a line or limit my offerings... I was VERY green. Even then I had to send kids away because I would have just kept painting all night. This year, I actually cut my line off an hour before end time because it was so long! I marked each kid in line, and gave my end of line sign to a girl about 10 years old to hold and tell people the line was closed. So 30 minutes later I look back and realize my line has grown another 10 kids at least! My last girl just handed the sign off to the next person that showed up, and it continued to grow! Luckily I had also marked each kid, so I announced to the line that I was sorry, but my line was closed to everyone past that girl, and everyone getting painted was marked. Of course you have the complainers, but I just ignored them. So anyway... I finish my last girl literally 1 minute before my scheduled ending time. Then one of the nuns comes up and asks super sweetly if I could just paint something little on this one little kids hand, he's so sad he isn't getting painted... etc, etc. At the same time there are two kids looking at my board talking about which one they want, and a handful of other kids and parents looking at me longingly (or staring daggers and grumbling insults). So I looked at the nun and said "I'm sorry, but no. If I paint that kid then all the other kids I turned away will be mad and I'll have to paint them all too. It'll take me an hour to paint all these other kids that want it done... it's never just one". And she had that look like "how can you say no to a cute little nun like me??". LOL.... my mom would have yelled at me if she'd been there.... how dare you say no to a NUN?? I guess it's a good thing I didn't go to Catholic school as a kid... I'd probably still be there painting! Smile

Not to worry, I've said no to lots of nuns and I'm not even sunburned... Laughing

But I'm not Catholic either.

Its ok, Nuns are tough. I volunteer for them and they know they have 'power' sometimes. They think people wont say no to them. Your strong and right to say no! lol its k if your heading south, least we will all be together and maybe we will get a group discount. =0)

Ha, if I had the time I would have said, "why of course, my rate is $XXX for the next hour, payable immediately." With a sweet smile on your face, of course.

I've not had the opportunity to say no to a nun, but I would if she wanted me to paint past the time I am supposed to. I always refer to my contract on those occasions... I'll go 30 minutes longer or 1 hour longer but it'll cost $XX.XX amount to do it Very Happy
But, I'm not catholic & know where I'm "going" regardless of who I say no to Very Happy
