My first paid adult skull

Post by freedspirit on Sat May 21, 2011 5:36 am

Hi my friends
Just had to share my joy..I was REALLY nervous about this job..so I practised like mad on my dear hubby and son(bless em) but still was'nt happy with what I had done..ARgh..butterflies in my tummy and just wanted to let him know I could'nt do it...I know sounds silly,,but that is honestly how I felt.He was so specific in what he wanted and I was afraid I could'nt deliver..Anyhow I pushed throught those awful feelings and I'm so glad I perservered.. He was very happy and has just text me to let me know everyone at the party love his face!! Very Happy Ahh relief..so happy that I did'nt give up.

I would dearly love any tips on skulls and bones..you could spend ages on bones..I had no idea.

Looks great!!! Specially love his hand. My boys were passing by when I was on this thread and they stopped to have a look. They said "whooa that looks cool, is that a glove??" Glad you conquered your nerves. Nice bonus to have the text.

Great job!!! You totally rocked it! cheers
I think this one beats my first skull for sure! Mind if I ask how long you took and how much you charged? I know my personal appointments start at $20 and go up from there depending on what the client needs. Or was this a previous client and you discounted for pix/practice?
AND it's just an 'enquiring minds want to know' question....please feel free to ignore me!!! LOL Very Happy I know that prices are VERY regional anyways. You can only charge what the marketplace will support.

Hey Mehndi..

I charged $30 which was only going to be for the face,,
because I had never done a skeletal hand before....I threw it into the package just to try it out..I really enjoyed doing the glove it is a little time consuming. This took between 30 - 40 mins..for the whole thing. My husband say half an hour..it sure felt like longer.
Thanks for all your support guys..it really means so much to me.
To do it again I think I would charge $40 - $50..What do you think?

I think that $40 - $50 is fair depending on your market and you did a great job on it. Often with my clients once they have what they have paid for, I will do extra for free if it's my own 'play' time. Example was last night. Girl had $20 but had an idea that I thought was pretty cool and I wanted to try it. She probably got about $30 to $40 worth, but I got to experiment! Very Happy
I was happy with my first skelatal hand but wish I could have taken more time on it. I had two full bodies to do and a face for day of the dead shoot and there was just not enough detail on it for my tastes. I also neglected to bring any bone reference material, so I was just 'winging it'. I also comprimised on the roses because the photographer wanted them without detail and I was so pressed for time I let him have his way. Still kind of regret that. BUT was overall pretty happy with it all. Here is the shot of one of the girls Very Happy

Again, you did a fantastic job for your first! Be proud!

NoWay Gr8ful..you are awesome..We are all in the same boat of learning...and you are amazing...truly! Very Happy

Mehndi..thanks for sharing..and I love your new pics BTW.If I can find a willing model..would you mind if I gave this a go?
How long did it take to do this one? AND when you do the roses do you just clean an area where you want to place one? Or do you "pencil" it all out first. Thanks a bunch.

Your first affraid skull you say wooooh baby you did awesome & your threw the hand in OMG I had to look twice cause I thought it was a glove. Your amazing we all think it so now you should to.

I got asked to do a skeleton hand on a boy the other night & well I didn't even take a pic - cause it was so below par. But it sure made me want to get better at it. So if you don't mind may I use yours as reference to give it a go? Thanks xx

Great job! I could have written your post word for word substitute "zombie" for "skull" this Halloween. But forcing myself to do it really took away a lot of fears I had about hiring myself out for more grown up stuff. It turned out great and the kid still can't stop talking about it.

Go you!!
