question about KRYOLAN aquacolor -- HAVE YOU USED IT??
I just received several KRYOLAN aquacolor pots.
i tried the Red and it doesn't seem cover so well.. no like Snazarro red..
So here is my question - as I am wary of trying the other posts and not being able to return them..
Has anyone used Kryolan and is this a feature of the brand - that it paints on thin?
The cakes seem moist in a way that I haven't seen with the Snaz, Paradise or Wolfe.
i was motivated by price.. and the colors..
ADVISE APPRECIATED

Re: question about KRYOLAN aquacolor -- HAVE YOU USED IT??
Kryolan is EXCELLENT!! It has been around eons longer than the other brands.
It is water activated make-up as opposed to "face paint" having been developed for theatrical use and therefore contains more make-up ingredients than say Snazaroo does.
Depending on the age of the cake you may need to add more water than you think and work it a bit (it can dry out a lot with age and takes longer to activate with water). I personally add water to my cakes when I set up, then when I go to use them there is a gooey spot ready to work.
I love working with Kryolan as the colours stay bright and true rather than drying out and getting "powdery" looking.
That being said - Snazaroo Bright Red is the best red and applies effortlessly (it is the best of the Snazaroo colours in this respect) but the other colours aren't as effortless.
My working kit is predominately Snaz AND Kryolan with others thrown in... and I am putting more Kryolan in as I replace colours.
Also, if you have Kryolan Interferenz or Metallic colours they require a lot more water and working it to make a paste to get good solid coverage.
What colours did you get?

I just have the interference kryolan...so yes they do take a bit more water to get a nice dark coverage...but they will do so or go on sheer if you need.
I don't have the 'regular' colors...so yea, what she said (points up at Shannon).

Re: question about KRYOLAN aquacolor -- HAVE YOU USED IT??
your emails are very encouraging. I will have to try adding more water and creating more of a 'paste' first.
I got colors to create rainbow cakes:
KRYOLAN 509- YELLOW 2.5 OZ
KRYOLAN 079- BRIGHT RED 2.5 OZ
KRYOLAN 2.5 OZ - TRUE GREEN GR21
KRYOLAN 288- ORANGE 2.5 OZ
KRYOLAN 091- SKY BLUE 2.5 OZ
KRYOLAN R27- PURPLE 2.5 OZ
INTERFERENZE BRONZE 2.5 OZ
WOLFE FACE ART FX 30 GM METALLIC WHITE
WOLFE BROTHERS 30G GREEN DAY GLOW PAINT
...plus some metallics since i didn't have any and heard great things about the wolfe metallic white.
I hadn't opened the other colors after my initial experience with the Kryolan Red since I considered returning them. i like the colors - very cheery.
when using Kryolan in 'cakes' do you activate the paint with a sponge that is more moist (?) - My experience has been that spraying the cakes makes for muddy results...
thanks! Avigail

Re: question about KRYOLAN aquacolor -- HAVE YOU USED IT??
I have a rainbow cake made from the Kryolan Dayglo colours. It is a dream to work with. I really must post a pic of this cake rather than talking about it all the time
I love the Interferenze pearl, silber and bronze
I think when my Snaz needs replacing i'll move more to Kryolan.

Re: question about KRYOLAN aquacolor -- HAVE YOU USED IT??
I had some of the dayglo colors and felt they were way to mushy to work with. Must have been my technique. I have all the interfernze and some are must haves and some are "ok". The one regular color I have, lavendar or perwinkle(not sure) works like a dream. I should take another look at this line.

Re: question about KRYOLAN aquacolor -- HAVE YOU USED IT??
I add water to my cakes by the drop - I use a 4 oz squeeze bottle of distilled water. I add the water as I set-up. I do this to ALL brands. I use dry sponges to then pick up the gooey paint that has formed where the water was added.
This does tend to make holes in the cakes rather quickly but you can smoosh the paint down into the hole and start all over!
Yes, sometimes my cakes get a little mushy, but I just leave them out to airdry when I get home for a day or two.

Re: question about KRYOLAN aquacolor -- HAVE YOU USED IT??
I have a lot of the K Aquacolours/ In terfernz as i LOVE them and would buy more but am keeping my kit small so only really get my faves!
Basically all the metallics are lovely; and I adore their duo-tone whites (Rot- Blau. etc) which each have a tinit of the colour in the title. So rot-weiss has a pearly red shimmer, etc. Just love them.
As said they can be slightly dryer and sort of crumblier than you are used to but are worth the effort. I love them as they didn't go gooey in HK and I can still spray them damp, which I can't do with Wolfe.
I have a pot of 1/2 kupfer 1/2 Wolfe gold as that way I can swipe accross the 2 and get the strnegth of the wolfe but the lovely shade of the kupfer.

Re: question about KRYOLAN aquacolor -- HAVE YOU USED IT??
I know this thread is old but I'm doing some re-ordering and as much as I love my Snazaroo after 6 months of long, hot, humid festival days the melty mushiness has worn me down..so now I'm looking for other options. Are you all still as stoked on Kryolan? Is it as safe for little ones as Snaz? Does it blend as well for bases? I'm looking for a blending paint as I've been enjoying TAG for linework... any thoughts welcome
Re: question about KRYOLAN aquacolor -- HAVE YOU USED IT??
Kryolan is a glycerin based makeup so it blends beautifully! I only have a few colors but what I do have I love to pieces! I still use DFX or TAG for linework but for blendability I have my Paradise and Kryolan. I don't use Snaz much anymore because of it's availability on store shelves, but I can't let go of that red...
Re: question about KRYOLAN aquacolor -- HAVE YOU USED IT??
Just a thought - my Snaz is NEVER mushy, and I leave my pots in the open air all the time. If your paints are mushy try leaving them out and never closing them.
Kryolan is beautiful and I love the vivid colors. I have a dayglow split cake and can't stand the smell of it though.

Re: question about KRYOLAN aquacolor -- HAVE YOU USED IT??
I love the smell of Kryolan! The smell of Paradise gives me a headache.
Very blendable - I split Kryolan lavender and purple, red/pink/white, dark blue/light tealy-turquoise (scientific name
- that's also my Avatar colour)...and I adore the interferenz silber (not metallic silver!), bronze and gold (bronze/gold makes a fab split for cheetah eyes for the teen/adult crowd). Neon rainbow is awesome and I just did a ton of neon pink (and Snaz sky blue) tigers yesterday. dark blue is awesome for Bat Guy.
So I'm a fan
I do have a darker teal that I rarely use because it stains my skin; I just haven't had a chance to take it out and list it in the Swap Shop - look for it soonish!

Re: question about KRYOLAN aquacolor -- HAVE YOU USED IT??
I have the kryolan aqua color palette and the interenze palette and the day glow rainbow cake and some singleton neon cakes (yellow, green, pink) which seem to be more of a powder...not quite sure what to do with these.
Shannon do you have any of those??? Are they to be used dry?
Anyhow yes the aquacolors take a litle more water, but I love them.
I think I may have even demo'd the colors on one of the brand comparison threads.

"singleton neon cakes" ?? Which are what? The small 2ml pots of Kryolan? Or something else?
Re: question about KRYOLAN aquacolor -- HAVE YOU USED IT??
how does it stand up to the heat? I worked out how to work my Snaz when it was melted and had to freezer it after each job but I'd love an alternative that I was also ok with for little ones.. but don't know about a fragranced paint does it smell bad?
