Kids say the darnest things!

Post by Metina on Sun May 17, 2009 4:55 pm

This isn't funny, but it is, iykwim. I asked a little girl around 10 if her dad helped her pick out her design and she matter of factly told me that "I don't have a dad. He is in prison." Ok then back to painting!

Yeah that they do!

I have one little girl that I see every summer out at the horse races, I get the latest "news" about the family from her - OMG, what a soap opera... she introduces me every year to her "new" step-sisters/brothers, new cousins, etc... EVERY year! I've never seen nor met her mom (who must be there somewhere.... probably busy picking out the next spouse...) She always has the most creative requests for paintings though... had to do a grave, roses and RIP Auntie on her a couple of years ago because her aunt had died of cancer... This is a kid about 7 or 8!

Where were you painting? That sounds so sad. What is iykwim?

My quote of this weekend came from a little girl of about 4. She looked up at me and said something that I didn't understand. I bent down to her and asked her what she had said. She stretched up and very seriously asked again, "are you old?" I said "yes, I'm old, are you old? She shook her head and very matter of factly said "no, I'm still a kid". How cool is it to be a part of a childs life as they discover.

Haha, I love what kids say. I'm touring a school show right now, and we do a Q&A afterwards. I love when we have time for one more question, and they're all frantically waving their hands, and the kid we choose says:

"What did you have for breakfast?"

or

"I want to be a lawyer!"

Yikes! How do you respond to that one!!! Smile Sad LOL I can't imagine what I would have said. Probably would have just said..."so, you picked this design all by your self! Wow, what a cool choice you made!" And kept on painting. LOL To quote Achmed the Dead Terrorist (youtube) "HOLY CRAP" LOL

I'm never sure whether to be glad that she wants to be like me or upset when my daughter says, "When I grow up I'm going to be fat like you." Shocked

I had a 'lovely' child ask me if I was sure that the chair wouldn't break under me. I am a larger lady, but the chair doesn't scream or anything when I sit on it. Cheeky!!!
I did embarrass myself recently when I called someone's dad grandad. So the kids aren't always the worst Shocked

Reminds me of a joke.

A little girl looked at her grandmother getting dressed and said, "Grandma, I can't wait until my boobs are as long as yours!"

Jokes aside, a woman mistook me for being pregnant when I was wearing an empire waist dress. I wasn't happy. Mad

Me and my fiance took my cousin's child to disneyland. She was about 7. I knew she wasnt well mannered but I figure she had never been to disneyand. We went to pirates of the carribean and their was no line until we were almost to the boats were the line stopped abruptly. Well, she exclaims very loudly ,"Why won't those fat people let us through." Me and my fiance just felt so embarassed. We pulled her aside and explained to her that while she was out with us that she had to be on her best behavior and not say anything that would make her feel bad if it was said to her.

Spoke to my cousing after words. and she shrugged and chuckled.

Ah, that's when you loudly ask your fiance why this strange child has been following you all over the park like she knows you. Hehee...

Have I told you guys about the time a lady in my church thought my husband was my SON?? (I am only 30 years old!) It was so ridiculous that it was hard to be too offended. I still laugh about that.

I still tease my husband, because when we were first dating a sales lady referred to him as my dad when I was trying on clothes. We're the same age. Smile

I've also had the reverse and had someone ask when comparing me to my older sister, if I was the oldest. Argg! Smile

Its not really the same thing, but I'm 22 and I often get mistaken for being 13 and 14... I get carded when I'm trying to buy markers or spray paint. Laughing And its also difficult to be taken seriously sometimes, because I look so young!

I had a kid ask me at my last gig if I was a vampire... because my teeth are a bit crooked. o__o
