What about painting lips and sanitation
I've just been painting a few months. I have some of the sample books, and when little girl see that, some of them will ask to have their lips painted as well. If the parents say yes, then I do. But what about sanitation?
I just don't have enough brushes to for one time use only at each gig. I thought about maybe having a separate jar of vinegar or something to wash the brushes in, but not sure if that would work. Maybe using my fingers, and then using hand sanitation every time? What is ideal for these situations?

Cotton tipped (q tip) applicator, or a disposable brush is what I use.....

Re: What about painting lips and sanitation
I use a professional Kryolan lip brush (Mehron makes a good one too) and then wipe the brush and cleanse (dip it) it in Mehron Brush Treatment in between usage. It is fast and easy. I also have disposable lip brushes but don't use them too often.
I tend to use more lipstick on lips than paint - we make our own lip compacts.

Face Painting the lips
Me too on the Q-Tips. But, I use a tiny detailing brush to outline the lips. That I sanitize by rubbing it across an antibaterical wips (meant for hands and face).
I also spritz my brushes, and my water, with vinegar to santize them.
I left this photo big so you could see the liner lines on the liips.

Re: What about painting lips and sanitation
Since I have to clean and sanitize every brush between every person I just do their lips last with the brush I'm using and then clean it as usual.
Re: What about painting lips and sanitation
Q-Tips for me
Or brush. Whichever is more convenient.
I'm not squeamish about germs and really vinegar isn't going to help with sanitizing anything so unless I see a cold sore I just use whatever is easiest.
The girls lick off the lipstick in about 3 minutes so spending forever on the lips is pointless on a real job <3

I use Q-tips. Also worth noting - don't double dip. ie once the q-tip touches the lips don't dip it back in the paint.
I follow this rule with sponges too as for full face they touch the lips. Then throw them in the wash.
Quite a few of my relatives get coldsores so I know how painful they are and also that they can be transmitted really easily, even when you can't see them so I'm pretty careful about lips cause I'd had to cross contaminate kids.
Besides I'm with Heff - it's not worth it for the 3mins the lipstick lasts. If I'm at home and doing a big piece for a photos/comp I'll use brushes but then sanitize them after.

Actually vinegar is an excellent disinfectant!

I use Q-tips for lips then toss them in the trash. My standard lipstick for girls is Wolfe Metallic Rose...soooo pretty and goes with almost everything! I line up two clean glass baby food jars (labels removed of course) - one with clean water, the other with Q-tips, on a black washcloth with the pot of Rose, then just dip and swab each pretty pucker.

That's straight vinegar - diluted does nada.

Re: What about painting lips and sanitation
I use q-tips and sometimes the sponge that I put the base on with. I use one sponge per face and if I'm painting a design that has a lipstick option, I usually ask the child if they want lipstick while applying the base. If she says yes, I dab her lips with the sponge after I lay the base...the paints going to get washed away anyway, might as well use it. The butterfly on my daughter (in my avatar) was done that way...I especially liked this one because her lips ended up with the same blue-green-yellow gradiation as her butterfly. When I forget, I use a q-tip. When I'm doing a private painting and want to "glitterfy" the lips, I use a separate brush.
Re: What about painting lips and sanitation
I also use Mehron Brush Treatment when ever i do the lips, near the eyes, or someone who appears to have a cold. it's not worth contaminating my entire set of paints, brushes, sponges etc.
Also, when doing large events, especially, i often have to ask what 'that is' on someone's face - i'm not a skin doctor, i dont know the difference between some dry flaky skin or poison ivy. MOST times it turns out to be left over food or dirt that moms n dads can wipe off with a wet wipe.
