$3 Brush Holder

Post by OMaggie on Sun Jun 05, 2011 9:53 pm

I saw in a post once (I think it was Psalms)where it mentioned about making a brush holder from a noodle. I was going to buy a brush holder from SF but decided to try this first. The only thing missing is the Velcro on the bottom, thought I had some but I don't so i'll be making a store run tomorrow. Pic is below. I hope it works well, I think it should!

I made a bath seat for my mom out of two pool noodles... those things are handy.

If you slice the noodle along the bottom it will grip the edge of a table(I think I saw this somewhere on the Snaz FAQ page).

I know, but won't it be too much movement. I'm afraid of it falling off... DO you think it would stay.

It should because it clamps onto the table. Maybe try it w/ a small piece as a test. I've seen pictures & it looks pretty secure. I use the waterbottle ice tray for mine You can find them in Walmart in the spring & summer time in their seasonal dishware section.
You can see it in the left of this picture. It fits in the bottom of my fatmax while traveling w/ all the brushes in it.

Sherry uses the water bottle ice tray too. I use jars but im realllllyyyy getting tired of them. I'd be worried about the noodle falling over I'll have to try one out it looks like a great idea though! Smile

I use something similiar to the water ice tray, a popcicle tray , the kind you use to make your own and has stick that go on top. It has 8 holes, if I could find the ice tray one, I would buy it, but no luck so far.

OK, Help me out here: How do you get the noodle to "clamp on"? Do you cut through the side wall into the hollow center?
I have a noodle and want to try this!!

Linda; loving this picture, you just have convinced me I have to buy a Fatmax, so bad you didn't post this pic earlier, I am in Germany now and I don't know if they would ship it to here, but I'll try. BTW do your flat box with the cakes paint fit in the big bucket in the bottom? Thanks.

I just use a Popsicle tray too. I got it at the Dollar Store, so incredibly cheap. $1. Smile

It has 8 slots. I use one tray for brushes and one tray for water. That helps keep my waters cleaner and I have 8 slots to use before I need to clean my water out.

I'm on a budget so I am constantly looking for creative inexpensive ideas. Smile

btw; anyone have any good ideas on how to clean your water containers? The pigments doesnt even want to let go after being in the dishwater.

Let me know. Thanks!

What are those handy dandy cases that have your paints in them? The ones with handles... are they part of the tool box or are they something else?

I use a folding brush easel, and also a foam piece. lemme go take a pic.. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=809921319357&set=a.512143598297.2058917.33601855&type=1&theater

I just sit a piece of foam in my box and then shoved my main two brushes in it... all of the others stay in the easel.

Pool noodles! I've been racking my brain trying to figure out how to cop some more of that closed-cell foam like what is used in the laptop cases - I have some that are laminated together but not big enough pieces to fit in my Fatmax slot where I want them. Also, I like the brushes to stand at different heights, so I want the bottom to be tiered.
And...(I can't believe I've gotten so anal in my later years) I can't STAND a brush that leans, even a little. I can't seem to 'see' it anymore, and it gets paint on the one next to it. I'm about to glue hard paper to a floral foam block and just drill holes in that.

Here's my red spinning brush holder - works okay, I keep tweaking it by making little cylinders of plastic out of old bottles, stuffing foam in the holes - anything to keep the suckers from leaning. It looks terrible and messy now, but it works better. Am still trying to come up with a viable idea for keeping the inner circle of brushes higher than the rest - it won't come apart. http://www.facepaintforum.com/gallery/Personal-album-of-ponygirl/img-1916-pic_6004.htm
