Started a website - please critique

Post by helena on Wed Jun 08, 2011 5:30 pm

Hi all,

I've been working on a website (thanks for the info Perry) and would reaaaaally appreciate any critiques or comments you may have.

I'm a complete dweeb when it comes to this, so whatever you have to say/suggest will be very helpful.

Thanks very much.

Oh yeah, I guess the address would be helpful Smile

Looks pretty good...here's my suggestions:

The header is way too big. I don't know why templates make the header huge. If you can't make it smaller put your best face painted face up there. Even though I have a pretty good resolution screen, the text starts near the bottom of the page.

Since you have your Title at the top...I don't think you need to repeat it. Start with your "Face painting for every occasion."

Is there a reason for the capitalized "FA" in Face? If there is then state it like "we're the best painters in the FA area" or whatever the reason is.

Good luck!

D.

What about breaking up the page "about" into another page with services.... you could just about break down services even further using a drop down menu for the different ones....
I agree with the title (I used to use the same one and was never totally happy with it) Add your best face painting picture.

Oh and another thing, which may be a personal preference, I think the whole site just needs more pictures!!

Hi Helena, feel a bit funny giving a critique since I'm just trying to do something like this myself. But I would like whatever help I could get so here's my 2cents worth.

Firstly, congrats on your site!!

Besides what was said above I did find the text on some pages a little hard to read. Your About page and FAQ. Even if you just increase the font size, I think that would help --- if you see on your About page under Services Offered and Functions, it's alot clearer than the rest. On the FAQ page, if you tried to bold all the text it might make the difference. It looks to dim to me.

I also think a nice big photo on your home page would ge great.

Ok, well, that's just what I think. They're just little things. Hope you don't mind.

Goodluck with it all!

Thank you thank you! Great ideas Smile

I'm off to work now (hence this ungodly hour Smile) but when I get back I'll work on the site using those suggestions ~ I really do appreciate any input.

Okay, I've done what I could (given my techno inabilities) to use your great ideas and update things... there were a couple of things I couldn't figure out, but I'll fiddle with it...

and I'll save up my pennies to get a camera so I can work on building up my photo collection!

any other ideas gratefully received Smile

Speaking of 'not-being-able-to-do-it" - how do I get that nice little 'webpage' button on my posts that some of you have? I looked under my 'profile' and 'home' tabs and tried 'searching' it on here, but no luck. Any help? Thanks! Smile

I think it's nice and clear but I did notice that some of the pics in your album were repeated. Other that it is nice.
