Would you buy this tent?

Post by Rantzau on Thu Jun 09, 2011 5:39 am

Hi all!
So I've found this great deal on a tent but am a bit unsure if it's the right investment Smile

Here it is:
http://www.dba.dk/havepavillon-nypris-900-kr/id-74520869/

It says:

"Garden pavillon"

Bought at 900 kr.
Used only 5 hours.
Pop up garden pavillon - only 4 mins setup (with 2 persons).
2 sites.

It's 3 x 3 meters when it's up. In a bag it's 30 x 30 x 150 cm and weighs around 12kg.

I think I can buy it for around 400 danish kr (that's around 76$)

What do you think? Should I take it?Smile

Hi Rantzau, it looks in good condition. Just a couple of things I would consider before buying: if your setting it up in perfect sunny, no wind conditions it would be fine. In windy conditions I would not be so sure about it staying put. Is there 4 walls with it or just the two walls in the pic? Also can the 2 walls in the pic come off? Does that price include shipping?

I know when I set up my gazebo & put 2 walls up, by the end of the day I may need to put another wall up because the sun has moved. Do you have ebay where you are, cause you can get a good deal on gazebo's from ebay that are stronger looking then this one you've seen.
If it was for me I wouldn't buy it cause it doesn't look strong enough, but only you know what sort of conditions you'll need it for. Just my 2 cents worth.

Many events will only let you use tents that are all white. After my tent issues I'd also recommend spending the money & getting one w/ a vented roof. This will help prevent it from sailing away in strong winds. I have an EZ UP w/ walls & while I like it, it's not vented...

I honestly wouldn't buy anything labeled as "Garden" because they simply are not strong enough.

I have 3 commercial grade EZ-Up (pop-ups), including one that has lasted me 5 years through wind storms, hail, thunder, lightning and it even flipped at one event where we weren't allowed to anchor it down.
I have one "garden" grade EZ-Up that is barely strong enough to handle when we put it up for picnics and block parties.

If you do decide to go with it there are things you can do to strengthen it up. Make sure you anchor it well with tent stakes or weights (if stakes are not allowed). Spray all fabric surfaces with a water repellent that can be found at any camping store.
Weight of rain catching on the roof can be an issue for the garden ones. I've seen tents collapse because of this. You can brace small hula-hoops between the frame and the top to help keep the rain rolling off and not pooling in the top.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Thanks for all the great advice!

I've decided not to buy it.
