Feeling Depressed

Post by IamGinaW on 6/9/2011, 2:09 pm

I got notice that my landlord (the owner of the house I'm renting) wants to occupy the house I'm in. So, I have less than 60 days to find a house and move. UGH!! I'm feeling stressed and depressed.

I have been in that situation before (kind of)

One place we moved into said that they only do 6 months leases because they want to see what kind of tenant you are before committing to the long term. I was fine with that since I pay my rent on time. Then the 6 months were up and he said that he was selling the townhouse I was in into 2 separate pieces (we could buy our half) and we could buy it if we wanted... otherwise we had to be out. UM DUDE... If I could afford to buy a house I wouldn't have been paying your mortgage!!!!!!!!!!!! Then we moved into another place and everything seemed perfectly fine (it was an upper) after about a month I thought this guy was a little weird so I looked him up on the court records... GUESS WHAT? He was in end stage foreclosure and we had to move right away... Lost our security deposit and everything. We still haven't recovered from all of that and it has been about 2 years... That was a lot of security deposits to just 'give up'

Oh Gina, that sounds terrible to me. Is that possible? Don't you have the right to stay? I don't know exactly how this works over here, maybe it's possible too. I can imagine you are depressed by it. Hope you will find a house soon (maybe you will find an house even better).
Suze, I hope you have a good house now.

Re: Feeling Depressed

Gina, that happened to us once too when the building we were in was sold and the new owner wanted our apartment to move his mother into. I remember bursting into tears, because we had poured our heart and soul into decorating the nursery just over a year earlier. There were so many milestones in that apartment, it broke my heart to leave it.

In the end we actually found a nicer place, but at the time it was devastating to me. It was while we were in that next apartment that we made the decision it was time to buy our own home so that would never happen to us again. That was over 20 years ago and we are living in that same house now. It hasn't all been wonderful but you know what they say - when a door closes, a window opens.

Keep your chin up, and hopefully there is something even better just around the corner! Very Happy

Damn - I hate moving..... everytime I have to do it I swear I'm going to become a minimalist..... yeah right more like a professional hoarder!
I don't know what it's like where you live but here in Sydney it is a royal sh*t fight to find a rental place..... there is like 50 people at every showing, and you have to compete with all these professional and gay couples with lots of money and no kids, it can take up to 4 months to find a place.
I'm sure you will find somewhere really quickly - because you have the best karma- try not to be depressed about it ..... try to be proactive and see it as an exciting new beginning, somewhere fresh where possibilities are endless!
Most importantly - come and dump your stresses on us! That's what we are here for and we don't want one of our family off being depressed and stressed! Remember life closes doors so you will notice the open window.

www.socialserve.com may help you find a house to rent. Around Indy, it's mostly slum lords that list there, but you'd want to check out any rental carefully anyway.

Suzy!
Why didn't you get your deposits back? If they keep it without cause (and after 6 months there is rarely cause) then you can sue him for it. Some states even have a treble (3x) damages clause for landlords that keep your deposit without written proof and notification.

Gina, wishing you best of luck...sorry about that.

Awwww My heart goes to you!!

From the time I graduated high school (2000) till a year ago, I moved (on average) once a year. School, jobs, breakups, money, dumb landlords, retarded roommates, you name it I've been there. I had moving down to a science!!

We bought our first house last year and the security I get from that is so amazing. For the first time in ten years I actually have unpacked every single box I moved in with LOL.

Hang in there you'll find the perfect place!

Oh Gina! I'm so sorry for you. I'll be praying for you. I've done a lot of moving with my husband being a Navy man. We moved 3 times in 4 years once. The best thing I can say is God had a reason for each of those moves & it was a good thing, even if I didn't see it at 1st.
I'm praying this for you... That this move would be a blessing in disguise!

Linda, I think you are really right. Please keep up the prayers! It may be a BIG blessing. I'm feeling so much better about it today. We might have a really great opportunity right now. I'm just praying that it all works out but I know it will.

Thanks everyone for your sympathy and encouragement!!

Awww Gina, I am so sorry you are under so much stress right now. I agree with Linda, things happen for a reason and I am sure great things will come from this. Please stay positive and make sure you find out what you can do in this cases.
Did you guys signed a lease, is the lease up in 2 months? were you guys on a month lease.

I hope there is something you can do but if I recall right you only need to give a 30 day notice when you are moving out and landlord the same (I used to be a leasing agent)

Hugs!

Re: Feeling Depressed

Post by Skidzz on 6/14/2011, 9:38 am

Wow sweetie!!! Here in co I think that its illegal to give notice unless there is just cause. Not just to move in themselves. Even if they gave the standard 30 days, and especially if you leased for longer than 1 month at a time. I hope you at least get your deposits back if nothing else!!!

I also think that there is something greater waiting for you!!! You just need to be positive about it, and be open to the process. Even though this isn't right the way its happening, its for a good reason. You might find that (extreme thought here) you end up getting a settlement over broken lease, which is more money in your pocket... Smile or that down the road something that was unexpected happened with the house, or even better, your dream place opened up for an amazing price and you get to own your own home!!!! Smile

We are all here for you, and I personally never mind lending a shoulder for tears! So heres a big bear hug for you!!! And I wish there was something I could do to help you!!! Just remember to take it one day at a time, don't overwhelm yourself with everything in the future, because I am positive it will all be taken care of!!! Smile flower
