Has anyone used Liquitex Freestyle brushes?

Post by Stacia on Mon Jun 13, 2011 5:59 pm

I'm a newbie and I'm just about ready to purchase my first supplies. I see some of you have posted that you have found good brushes at local craft stores, I have a Hobby Lobby down the street and they didn't have much that I have heard mentioned here on this forum...but they did have these "Liquitex Freestyle" brushes that caught my eye. Has anyone tried out this brand?
The handles are sort of a neon lime green and have a "comfort" style handle.
Here's a picture:

Never seen them before... but then I am on the otherside of the world! lol
Look good to me though! - I would just buy say a #2 and #4 and try them out..... in truth when it come to brushes - you need to find what works best for you.... some prefer soft bristles because they have a light touch when painting.... but if you find you are heavy handed, firmer bristles will get you better results.
Hope that helps you a little.

My only hint for brushes would be that you look for 'watercolor' brushes because we use water activated paints and those brushes hold the most paint for us.

The brushes that work for you will change as you develop your style, the best brush that you can buy is one that works for you. I have $40 brushes, and $3 brushes, both of which I love.

Good luck finding your best brush!

I was just looking at these brushes at Hobby Lobby also. I need another 1 inch brush for my split cakes, and would like to have a brush that's kind of firm. These look like they would work well. But you're right Barb, the handles are very long, which is why I didn't purchase. I guess I could cut the handle.
