Stamps ...VS... No Stamps...[

Post by Ginacentral on Thu May 28, 2009 3:50 pm

I have a set of 20 small stamps that I have been using from time to time I got them from ACE Moore craft store. I take a sponge on a little black and make a little scene out of them. Like a bee (stamp) hoovering over a flower I hand painted.

Is there a reason why I should not use stamps? I clean them off with wipes after each use though I havent used them a ton in public yet.... more just playing around. Sometimes they help with speed even though sometimes I still have to paint over all the black lines after coloring them in.

Snaz and Silly Farm offer stamps to sell and so I don't see a problem with you using them, except that while they will help in the short run, will hold you back in the long run.

I have never used stamps myself, but see there place, but not really what I would expect to see once you are "professional."

Once your skills step up, you will not need them and will see that they are really holding you back.

Start working how to sponge the same shapes with a sponge and then outlining. This will speed you up A LOT!

I made one once with Thomas the Train for a job, because I found it hard to do the small angular shapes on the cheek. And then it was a great help! Now I have found a good technique instead, and that is faster than the stamp. But for a lot of similar objects, I guess it have its value. Like stencils for doing bodypainting.

I could use a Thomas the Train one. Does anyone know where to get one? I get at least one request per job and have to turn it down. This is about the only one.

Nothing really wrong with using stamps... it's the INK or STAMP PADS that are the issue. Are they skin safe/cosmetic use???? Most of the Burpo ones that Snaz sells have a skin safe ink pad OR people use them with the face paints.

Metina, I just used a eraser to cut out the shapes. Makes nice lines.
Did a whole facepaining with his face that was really easy. Sorry, do not have any pictures, but can make one, if there is an interest?

I have two stamps and skin safe ink pad that I keep in my kit for emergencies, I have only ever used them on two "types" of children.
Little kids too young to sit & children with specialist needs, in some cases it is important for the child to see what you have done. I only use them when all the alternatives have been exhausted, usually on little brothers.
