Arty Cakes vs. Tag Cake sizes

Post by SuzySparkles on Sat Jun 18, 2011 9:43 pm

Well I heard that the Arty Cakes came out with a new/longer case to match that of TAG. At first glance everything looks the same... however the Arty Cakes aren't as deep and do not have the same amount of paint... And that is my review! Very Happy

It doesn't look like TOO big a difference. Thanks for the review! What is the price difference?

I've only used one Artycake and the paints were inconsistant. One of the colours was very soft and there was a lump of it on my flat brush. . . also I think it was a neon amoungst "normal" colours which obviously doesn't work.

I have used TAG rainbows and think they're good . . although I prefer to make my own with different colour combinations . . . the challenge is finding containers that minimise paint wastage.

That's interesting to see that, thanks Suzy. As far as price comparison goes I'm pretty sure the new Arty Cake's are $10 USD & TAG one strokes are $14 for 3 colours $15 for 4 colours $16.50 for neon & reg rainbow but these prices are in AUD.

I picked up a couple of artycakes at FABAIC where they had the huge display of all the new longer cakes and at this point, I have to say that they are pretty comparable (at least the colors I picked...cannot speak to all cakes for either brand) but I do think that the TAG cakes appear more vibrant in color. Again, as far as the ones I went for. I think that I may become 'color loyal' more than brand loyal prefering for example the artycake leaf but can't touch my TAG flame or snake! I will definately be reusing the containers tho for my DIY cakes!

I can't blame you on the reuse. I plan to use mine to test new color combos to add to the shop.

From the forum shop the 3-colors are $10.99 and the 4-colors are $11.99.

I hate! refilling/remaking rainbow cake stuff.

I find that everyone thinks they will have all this free time to refill their rainbow cake supplies but when you are really out there working it is frustrating to have to sit down in your free time and soften then slice then refill then CLEAN UP after. Easy peasy but time consuming and yet another lengthy bit to add to your kit prep routine.

Sorry- this is a review thread. I'm hoping TAG will lower their prices. I sent an email asking Gaenor but haven't heard back yet. Yay for a cheaper Peacock cake!!!

Here is a picture of the ArtyCake - Funky Town.

It's hard to see - but the second yellow "hollowed out" - It was a freebie from SF. The quality wasn't good enough to put on the swap page here so I chucked out the rest of the paint (wasn't much there) and used the container to make my own leaf cake.

I think it is great that they are lowering their prices, now face painters can have the widest selection of paint at the lowest prices. I like to feel like I was a small reason for this. LOL!

TAG splits are now slightly lower in price and 6 new 50 grams and 5 new one-strokes were ordered yesterday!

This is a great picture representation on the size as well that Suzy did.

I guess it does kind of come down to volume and such.

I bet that some paints weigh less than others for the same amount of paint.

The real decider for me would be how many designs can you paint with each. I bet it's a really similar number Wink

With the tag ones having almost a 1/3rd more paint, i doubt that it would be equal to the ABC ones. I have both said paints (though not in split form) and they go out at about the same rate.
