Re: Arty Cake Pallet
No worries. I know that it is hard not to focus on the price, but I hope everyone saw Suzy's comparison and saw that the TAG one-strokes do have more paint in them the new ABC cakes.

Thanks Metina!
That's good to know. I can't fault the marketing department for counting on the consumer making a brief product comparison, and leaning towards the lower price, it is business after all, but it helps ME to have some clarity instead of paying to find out what's what.

Re: Arty Cake Pallet
Curious (took a quick look but I don't believe I saw...) what is the size of the ABC containers? I don't have any ABC or TAG splits as I make my own...are they actually an inch wide? Bit bigger to accommodate the brush without bristles going over the edge?
Re: Arty Cake Pallet
the abc cases are exactly the same size as the tag cases
i'll ask heather bout the weight comparison?
many tag distributors are switching to selling the usa made abc's
i can't disclose right now...until everything is final...but, i do know this for a fact.

Re: Arty Cake Pallet
On the back of the TAG splits it says their are 30 grams of paint, the arty cakes say approx 28.
They are they same size in width and length, but not in depth.
This is a picture of an Arty cake and a tag cake... Keep in mind that the depth of the arty cake container is not the same and tag STILL has way more paint even with the depth difference.

So they ARE less money... but they ARE less paint. That being said their are a few colors that I love from there... But I definitely think the TAG splits are a better value and I prefer it all being one brand of paint so that the colors don't wear unevenly.

Re: Arty Cake Pallet
I am getting in on this a little late I think, but, I was just discussing this very thing with my husband this week. I absolutely love the arty cakes, but, there is less paint. Now, I know that they just came out with the new ones. I happened to place an order right before the new ones came out...like the day before
but, I use my arty cakes all the time for TONS of designs. I do like the tag cakes but I like the colors offered by the arty cakes better. So, if they could make the price better with more paint then that would be awesome. I mean I use my cakes so much that I just can't go back at this point. If you are good with finessing your hand around then the colors just lend so awesomely. And I keep two and three of one color because I don't want to run out. How do the tag colors compare to the other colors? Like the greens for instance? And also what about washing off the skin? That is a big deal to me. I will say that the mermaid cake is a bit harder to get all the way off the skin but I use it for so much stuff!

Re: Arty Cake Pallet
If you look at it on a price per gram on the Tags just for the ones that are 11.99 which .40/gm the add'l 2 grams does not justify the difference in price especially the one that are 12.99. Compared to the new arty cakes at 10.00 for 28gm .36/gm
So the ABC's again are still the better value and with the pro palette they are less than 10 a piece so even yet a better value.
SF always has some type of promotion/coupon going. I used one to buy the Pro palette which brings the cakes to 8 bucks and change. The Tags just don't compare cost wise.
This is not to say Tag is a bad product. I have some Tag in my kit this is just soley on getting the most for your dollar. I know a fair amount of the FP'ers on here do not have as much discretionary income as others and really have to be diligent and conscious of how they can spend their means.
That is my only reasoning for presenting this
At the end of the day people are gonna buy what they buy based upon preference. If you were a TAG user in the past then you will most likely continue to be a TAG user and the price difference may not matter to you. But to those of you where money is an issue perhaps the info provided in this thread will help you towards your decision.

Re: Arty Cake Pallet
After speaking with TAG, I was able to lower the pricing just a bit to be more competitive. Now since we have more paint in ours, they should be comparable.
I just wish I didn't have to pay for the shipping from Australia or they would be dirt cheap!
Plus keep a look out as I have just place an order for 6 new custom 50 gram cakes, and 5 new custom one-stroke cakes.

Re: Arty Cake Pallet
I just wish that more FP'ers lived closer to me.
That way, we could order from Metina (whatever brands we liked), and spend the day making splits together!!!!!
Have a FPF split makin' party!
I can dream, can't I? *G*
I will say that I have made an inordinate amount of splits... most, I use... some, I've torn apart and used with something else. It's been trial and error... but, I'm just starting out - still getting a feel of what I need versus what I want.
Also, When I make splits for 1 inch cakes, I also make a 1/2 inch split of the same colors for smaller designs. I've found that I use the 1/2 inch cakes more than anything for eye designs.
*twitch*
It's a matter of $$ for me.... I try to be brand/site loyal as I can.. but, the bottom line is for me to make money. Sometimes, that involves saving money (by making my own).

I have the green split from tag and find that it can tend to stain if not used over something (like metallic white etc.) - however, after lathering a couple of times and washing twice it was barely noticeable on my arm.
I do like the tag splits I have (I think I have four different types from here) but am still practising using them to make them worthwhile having for more than just the flowers and leaves and rainbows and flames. I'm more used to doing fine detail work (like cheek painting) which is hard to do with a split as the brushes needed to use the colours have to be larger in order to reach all the paints. (I so need to make a mini split like some of you have shown!)
Re: Arty Cake Pallet
I was told they only take 24 hours to turn around but I don't know if that is from the factory or from the distributor in Australia. I hope to know more tomorrow about an ETA on the new cakes!

Re: Arty Cake Pallet
Can I just say - I noticed the exact same thing with Tag 50g and Prisma 50g
Except in this case the Prisma has more paint. At first I just thought it was a weight difference because the prismas seem to have another container inside the plastic one.... that could be made of metal.... but after trying them out there is no comparison - the Tag ( and I'm comparing the neon one which I guess isnt exactly fair) takes a lot to load, you go straight through the whole cake in like two or three gigs. Plus it has ridges in the bottom so when you get to the bottom it's impossible to get a nice load. The prismas load easily, have such a vibrant look you can use a fresh sponge every time without wasting paint, and seem to just go on and on and on.... I can't imagine when I will need to replace one.
Damn you Paradise - make some neons already!!
ok sorry - Rant over.

Re: Arty Cake Pallet
Firstly Metina I think that's wonderful that you are able to lower the price a bit on your TAG products. How exciting having some custom made cakes on their way!!
Basically for all Aussies on here TAG is by far the cheapest for us as we don't have to pay to big a postage on them. Whereas anything we get from the USA we pay HUGE shipping on. So my kit is mostly TAG, although I do order Wolfe white & black from SF so that always costs me more. But I'm willing to do that cause I have a preference to Wolfe white & black.

I think all of us AUSSIEs would love to be able to help you if we could Metina!!! Shipping is always the killer and the Aussie Dollar is stronger than the US Dollar so costs will be even higher for you! Who would have thought the USA would be importing from Australia! (the product is made in China though)
btw - I received my shipment yesterday - thank you!! I love the bag too!
I am loving my new DFX . . I love love love the colours - they are so vibrant! I was so excited last night that when my Mum rang to talk I told her I just couldn't chat because I got my new face paints and want to go play!

That's great Metina, I know alot of people will be appreciative of you making that call. Every little bit helps.
Re: Arty Cake Pallet
Metina,
Thank you, for increasing the tag split selection. I'm so excited. I just got my order a few weeks ago, and have been ignoring all my other paints. I love them. will there be one like peacock?
Thanks for finding a way to lower the price.

Re: Arty Cake Pallet
For right now there won't be a peacock color combination. I am really trying to be respectful of the fact that Rebecca came up with that color combination from tireless effort. I know some of the splits from TAG are similar, but the ones I have ordered, Suzy and I came up with from experience with our own kits and feedback from the forum.
A few will look like ones you have seen, but it wasn't from us lifting their ideas. I am sure everyone realizes after the concept came out people were putting together colors and a duplication of ideas is an almost certainty.
