Butterfly Brush for Kit

Post by Linzicat on Tue Jun 02, 2009 10:27 am

I'm still trying to settle on my favorite brushes in my kit. I've decided on two that I LOOVE and can't do without but I have a question. I know what a butterfly brush is but what designs do you typically use it for? I'd love to see some examples, step-by-step, or even better.....is there a video out there showing how to use it?
Thanks!

It's almost like a stamp. You load it with color and press it to the skin to leave a butterfly wing shape. You can use it to make small butterflies for designs or as a stand-alone. I don't use mine mainly because I like to change the shape of my butterflies often. I think there is a tutorial on the Snazaroo.us photo contast pages? Check the step-by-step contests.

Hiya,

I have about 7 designs that I hand cut in the forum shop. I will be adding demos of the shapes as I have the time.

They are super simple to use and add immediate flair to designs. The really help you with lines and make a wonderful design on the little ones who can sit still long.

Or you can make your own with a good fan brush. a super sharp pair of micro-tip scissors and a really steady hand. Laughing

I use my butterfly brush for small little girls( 3 and under). Like when big sis gets a full face, and little sis seems a little scared I will do one on their arm and or check for free. Makes everyone happy. But only free if the parent has already bought a face. Wish I could come up for one for little boys.....any suggestions on that one?

Well, I'm looking around and can't find the tutorial on Snaz. Probably right in front of me, just can't see it. I'll keep looking. I really want to see this being done.
Thanks!

I have several of these but can't quite seem to get the hang of it. Embarassed

I gave up on the butterfly brush and came up with a flat brush butterfly that I really like. It's fast and easy.

Really pretty butterfly Cassandra. I cut some hog hair fan brushes to a butterfly shape ages ago before I saw the light with sables. My daughter said it was 'too jaggy' so I don't use them very often.

You pretty much just double load the brush, lay it flat for each wing, then outline in black.

I use them on the tiny kids that I'm not sure will hold still for long and for making butterfly crowns (one in the middle, half next to each eye, then pearls or tear drops for the crown).

Couldn't get my homemade one to work so I perfected a one-stroke butterfly similar to Cassandra's and a lot like Suzy Sparkles.

nothing special just a small example I knocked up a few weeks ago. I love my butterfly brush it speeds things up I find. But I think it is either somthing you love or hate.
I do as many flatbrush one strokes as I do with this brush. just depends on placement and what person is looking for.

I am LOVING this Cassandra!! This is so beautiful!
Did you use a split cake? (If so) Which one? I am trying to picture how you did this. It looks like you used the edge of a flat brush and pulled down towards the body, for each section but I can't imagine how the pretty colours didn't then blur. Or maybe you used the flat of the brush and just outlined it to look like each section was separately painted.
Not having time to play (grr.. A few more months til I finish this darn course I'm taking and then I'll be able to play with my paints again) ...I'd dearly love to know how you did it. I love the colours almost as much as the shape! I love the colour of the one beside it too.
Nice work. Thanks for sharing!

here is a quick video I shot on my phone's camera, sorry it's a little weird, I had to try and work around the tripod I had my phone attached to so that I'd have both hands free. It's just a basic butterfly brush tutorial
