G'day mate... from Australia
Ah, yes, it's a cliche, but I could not resist. Forgive me?
What a great wealth of information and support this forum is... I'm afraid you've all been inadvertently feeding my new 'habit', lol! It certainly feels like I've become a little addicted to facepainting, but I guess i could be spending my money on worse things.
Anyway, I am planning to make a part-time business out of it (you all make it sound like fun, plus I need to make back some of what I've already spent), so I have started to put together a nice kit/palette, basically all TAG paints... and build a website with a photo gallery, using my 6yo son and myself as a model, and a practice head too. Occasionally DP will let me have a go at him, but not nearly enough.
With the good tips you've all shared here in the forum, I decided to take the plunge and volunteer at one of the local holiday resorts... we have school holidays starting in a couple of weeks. I phoned them today and they gladly accepted my offer - even suggesting I could use their paints. However, seeing as they're from the $2 shop, i said if they didn't mind I prefer to use my own.
My motivation is to not only get some practice in 'real life', but also to build my photo gallery.
I have created a website as well and would appreciate your feedback, if you have the time to go look at it.
My avatar is me sporting my very first tiger, and last night I painted my first unicorn, which I'm rather proud of. If I can figure out how to upload it, I will.
But for now I'd just like to say thank you for all your help, it is amazing how much I feel I have already learned from this forum.

I like your website! Great idea to volunteer for pics! It seems like everytime I get the new ones loaded up to the website, I think all the old ones are terrible! I guess it's a sign I'm getting better!
One thing I've started doing is, even if I have a picutre of something from a few weeks ago, I don't mind getting another picutre of it again. It's really cool to see how your painting gets better so fast!

Gidday mate & welcome to this fun loving place. I'm based in Tassie but have family up in Grafton. I'll be up there at the end of August-Sept and was thinking of doing a workshop whilst there. It would be lovely to catch up with you perhaps. Have fun here it's the best place in the universe.

Re: G'day mate... from Australia
Thanks everyone for making me feel welcome.
Helena, I can't say the owl is my own design. I came across a youtube tutorial and picked it up there. I think it would be a very quick one with a pouncer... but haven't tried it that way yet. i adapted it for the bats.
Mandi, I'd be happy to meet with you when you're up this way, if you have the time. Yes, it is a very beautiful part of the world and I consider myself lucky to live here... but Tassie is also gorgeous and I have contemplated moving there on more than one occasion!
HappyVickery, thanks for taking a look at my website. I built it with wix. I have a lot of experience in advertising, so I'm aiming to 'sell the sizzle', IYKWIM? I have to say I'm looking forward to seeing how my work improves. Nearly all of those photos are my first attempt at a particular style, so I am hoping everything will get better with practice, and I will keep taking photos and updating them as soon as I can!
I am planning on having a go at the local markets next month. I'm not sure I will be fast enough, but there's only one way to test myself - and that is to try it out under pressure. At this stage it doesn't matter so much if I make a profit, although that would be nice... it's more important to get the real life experience. I get a bit nervous when I think about it

Welcome!
I too like your website. The silver shown at the very end of your gallery photos... It`s beautiful! Which brand of silver is that?

It's TAG silver. I invested only in TAG, after reading positive reviews here in the forum. So far (and without anything to compare it with) I am really happy with the colours and coverage. I bought a sample palette, ie neons and pearls, which include 12 10g pots of colour... as well as silver & gold.

Happynut... I need to correct that last post. I had a look back at my gallery. The silver you mention (last photo: fairy flower chain) is actually a mix of two colours. I sponged a base of TAG pearl white, then covered it with TAG metallic/pearl blue.
