web page help

Post by reneec808 on Wed Jun 03, 2009 11:33 pm

I want to set up a web page. I started by downloading a few photo's as a start. I thought it be easy but it could be that I'm not really web savvy. I need your advice and direction on this. HELP!

Hi there!

This thread covered this topic: http://www.facepaintforum.com/getting-started-f6/website-help-advice-t76.htm I'm sure you can find some tips there

But first, what about the photos you downloaded? Are they yours and photos of your work, or just pictures you found online? Please remember that using photos that are not yours without permission is illegal, and could land you in some legal trouble. Smile

Best of luck!

What design program are you using to build your webpage? What are you having difficulty with, in particular?

Here are some things you can include on your web page.

Your name and business name
The areas you service
What services you offer and what sorts of venues you do
Pictures of your work
Your contact info - email and phone number

Isn't there a tutorial or something on the site? (don't know it). As Angie is saying, what is it you are having trouble with? Is it choosing what to write or how to get it on-line? Or maybe how to design it?

You may want to PM Just Jenny. She uses Go Daddy and managed to get her site up. Don't worry. Most of us are a bit technologically challenged.

With your questions, you may get better answers, it you are more specific.

It is easy to throw are hands in the air and say you can't do any of it, but if you do it one small step at a time it is more easy to overcome.

Keep posting, we all love to tell others what to do. LOL We just need to know "what" we are telling you to do.

You can try joining a website forum. I'm am sure they will be able to support you more. I was in a different forum asking about face painting. A member from that forum guided me over here.

It is difficult for a lot of people to make a website, even me.

I am glad you brought up that subject, Renee. Because mine is almost done. I am going to join a website forum myself.

I did my site on Yahoo Small Business in one night... [sigh] New Years Eve 2004... then had it all done, loaded it up... and I screwed it up... had to redo it all the next day. So "officially" my site went live Jan 02, 2005.

I had no experience with websites... but still managed to do it all in about 12 hours. I really like Yahoo - they also did my domain registry.

I did take an html class that gave me the tiniest little bit of knowledge so I can at least copy and edit code.

Renee, one good thing about becoming a member to a website forum is it is free. Plus you will also be obligated to ask questions dealing with good strategies dealing with SEO.

What is "SEO" I've seen that lately all over and have no idea what it stands for.

I'm lucky I know what ISP and CPU mean... and FUBAR and SNAFU

Search Engine Optimization

There are several methods to have your name show up first when someone searches for your services. It helps your name appear on the first page when someone searches "Alberta Face Painter", "Face Painter in Alberta."

If you want to see what your grades are in having your website appear when someone searches for your type of service, place your domain name in the box of: http://www.websitegrader.com/ It will give you a free grade from 1 -100.
