Best paints to use! Just starting out!
Hello everyone!
I love face painting. I just started getting into it.
I wanted to get myself started with a new NICE kit. Nothing cheap, but something that is safe, high quality and washes off easily. Of course also is the best!!!!!
Does anyone have any opinions on what works the best?
Thanks!
Lisa from Connecticut

Re: Best paints to use! Just starting out!
Hi Lisa,
I started with 2 Paradise Pallettes (essentials and Pastel) and a handful of softgrip brushes from Michaels, and a couple Loew-cornell i got on sale.
Spent probably $75 I think with shipping to start off with?
I then added DFX black and white for linework, and a rainbow cake. Now have started to replace and expand on the colors I have in my pallettes
I really like Paradise, it's softer on the skin, doesn't feel "stiff" or "caky" like DFX does, and blends wonderfully. We all have our favorites though and everyone has a different opinion!
I would defenitely say that a great way to start out is a couple of the smaller palettes. Most of the major brands offer smaller pallettes that you can use to get a wider range of colors for a good price without investing hundreds off the bat.
Metina carries most brands in the Forum Shop (link at the top of the page) and I can vouch that her service is bar none

Re: Best paints to use! Just starting out!
I would agree that Paradise is the easiest to start out with. Goes on great, has lots of colors, doesn't require a lot of work to get to a good consistency and I love the smell. The metallic colors are a little ho hum, I would go with DFX or TAG for those.
A good thing to start with might be the Paradise 30 color sampler. Would give you a good idea of colors and then when you are done you can use the palette with a 12 color insert.

I can't give you any advice, because the brands I use are Dutch ones, but you found the right place for information.

I have the paradise 30 sampler and I love it! Like Metina said, the smell is great. always reminds me of an island getaway.
they are super easy to use. I went through a bunch of sub par paints before I found Paradise. (I had trouble buying paints off the internet, I'm a see it and hand on kind of shopper)
I got the sampler to see what colors I like and what to order later. If it wouldn't have been for testing the colors with the sampler I might have spent more money a color I wasn't happy with. (like lime or gold, they both need several coats to show on the skin) I love the pinks and purples.
Oh and Wolfe Brothers White! Best for line work. It goes on more opaque then any other white I've tried so far.

Hi, Lisa. I'm a newbie too! I use Snazaroo for the base and DFX white and black for the linework. Now I go for some TAG metallic paints... Welcome from Spain!
