Who Uses Star Blends?

Post by Metina on Wed Jul 06, 2011 8:06 am

Hiya,

Just wondering how many on here use or have considered using Star Blends, a powder make-up that many face painters use to hold up in the heat.

Please feel free to comment on you use or ask questions about this product as well.

Thanks!

I got three colors Red,white and Blue and was so glad I got them for the 4th it was 100* and they saved our gig! the coverage looks just like paint! So glad I got them, I also have the BenNye Luminare pallet and with those combined I was able to do some nice colorful masks

i use them for tigers and spiderman in the summer.. also the pink is nice for fairies/kitties/blush/princesses/butterflies... etc. careful though, as they can break while shipping.. got a red last year that was all busted up.

I hate white but have never tried it on a gig. Concerns I have are that it takes longer to apply, and will stay powdery all day and get all over things when the face is touched. Valid concerns, or no big deal?

I love white for bases!! I use it on white puppies, etc. As for the longer to apply, I disagree... Well, it depends what you use to apply it. I use compact poof things from walmart and they fit right in the container.

Here are a few designs I have done with starblends... Don't judge, some are really old pictures lol

I use mine for tiger eyes and mussel - spiderman -venom It goes along way,I do a lot of tigers and barley have a dent in it - really saves on my white paint

but for full face cover I have a hard time getting fast ,even coverage- at least my white- I will try those puffs you have ,Suzy
my red and black go on a little faster

I have heard that after an hour or two the power falls off and your left with blah. Do you know if this is true Suzy?
Have you worn it yourself for a gig?

I use them for Spiderman/Venom, small spiderweb eye design, pirate, and Hello Kitty mask Smile I only have red, black, and white. I know some of the other colors are not so good. I would love to try more colors, just not sure which ones are good!

I did a spiderweb design on a fireman this past weekend. The red powder was fine, but the black paint sweated off within a few hrs Sad He was running around the festival so it was bound to happen in 100 degree weather.

Here are two designs. The Hello Kitty was my first run with the powder. I didn't like the way the red looked so light over top of the white. I just paint the bow on now Wink

This is after a whole day of full face Starblends yellow, then green on top for a green Fiona. I like it because it doesn't feel like I have anything on which is important when you are full face. It's starting to look a bit blotchy here, but then I'd worked all day in it. I use the lollipop sponges to apply. It did take awhile, but I covered a lot of area. Very Happy

I have a couple of hand me down starblends that I scored in the forum swap shop. I used them for the first time on the Fourth of July- I had a hard time working with them but that could be mostly because I'm not used to them... regardless, I probably won't use them again unless it's a million degrees and humid. But for occasions like that, I'm glad to have them in my kit and am seriously considering getting a few more colors so I can accomplish at least my most basic designs inside a volcano.
