Hi There! From Colorado
Hi Everyone!
I want to introduce myself, I have been checking out this forum all weekend, but now I can post- YAY!
Anyway, a little about me... My name is Tia and I am new to face painting, but think I am hooked! My daughter got her face painted a couple of weeks ago at a fair, and as I was watching the lady, I thought, "Hey I think I can do that!" So I went and bought a tulip cheep kit at Micheal's and went for it. I still need to get real paints and supplies, but had a blast with what I had. I painted all my nieces and nephews this weekend! It was fun!!
I have always been creative and artistic, so I am excited to have an out lit for it. I work full time as a Director of a Day Program for Seniors with Dementia and Alzheimer's. I love my job, but I have 2 daughters and ultimately would love to have my own business.
I do have a couple of questions for you all:
Can you actually make money being a face painter? I also make cakes, and feel like I usually end up spending money to make someone else cake! I want to do this, but I also want to know if it is actually feasible to make money?
Do you still love it, when you do it all the time? Do you still have a passion for what you do?
I tried to add a pic of my first two faces! I did tigers on both my girls (cause, of course they had to match, LOL) I hope it worked! Let me know what you think!
Nice to meet you all!

Thanks, Michelle. I love the your pic, I am a huge fan of day of the dead and love the artwork that goes with it!
Re: Hi There! From Colorado
Welcome Tia I have only been painting for 3 years and still love it. I too work full time or at least i did befor getting laid off work last year...I make enough money now to restock paints and pay for 1 convention a year..I think it takes some time and alot of marketing if this is what one wants to do full time....good luck
Re: Hi There! From Colorado
Hi Tia! I'm from Colorado too! I'm a homemaker, so I don't work another job or anything, but I do make plenty of extra cash doing what I do. I have face painting, glitter tattoos, hair tinsel and at festivals I also offer renaissance hair braiding.
The money I make from my booth allows me to buy all my supplies, and gives me plenty of extra spending cash as well.

Welcome to the part-timers list. I hope you have fun and learn lots. Your at the right place to pick up some healthy habits and good skills. Looks like you already have a good start on lines. Keep up the work.
If you need paints etc, check out the Forum Store. Metina has a bunch of good stuff in there.

You are doing a great job, and are in the right place to learn the ropes.
I am new here too and have only ever done face painting as a volunteer at church, school, ect. but am hoping to do it as aside business. Most of us get tired, but not tired OF IT!
Hope it goes well for you.

Welcome Tia! I miss Colorado, I used to live in Villa Grove. I am a SAHM, and face paint to supplement my husband's income. I do make some money, but it's really hit or miss, plus I am quite new on a professional level, and still getting established. Your tigers are awesome, especially for your first time, wow!
Re: Hi There! From Colorado
Thanks for making me feel welcome! I really am inspired by all the art work on here!

Yup! I got my first paying job two years ago at a church event I was doing as a volunteer. They had hired a balloon clown and he came over and looked at my work and said, "Hey! My wife would love to hire you for gigs!"

Hi Tia....Welcome... Looks like you have officially caught the bug...YAAY
I have started a business in Febuary and I intend to make money out of doing what I love..I am investing everything back into my business for the next year and maybe put a little aside for a holiday for my family,,and then I will look at saving what I make.. Still way at the start and I have alot to learn and alot to invest in ,,I am really enjoying the challenge and I still have time for my family and I also work looking after children in my home.ONE day I envision being so busy painting I wont have time to "WORK" a normal job...All the best to you..I look forward to getting to know you better.

Hi Tia,
Welcome, I am new also. I don't imagine I will get tired of face painting ever.
I have made a determination to put everything back into creating my business, and so far that's what I have done. There are lots of practical things that seem to come up week to week. Tents, signs, cards, and of course paints and brushes are just some of the investment. That's just the financial side, but it's just so much fun and really fulfilling. I love being able to make kids happy and create at the same time.
I am in Colorado too. There are so many wonderful face painters here. We should arrange a jam. I think they have 1 once a month in Denver. You can get info from the costume shop on Colfax in Denver. I think its called Disguises.
Your tiger are so cute. Well done
Keep having fun, and practicing.
Laurie
