I sliced and diced my whole set of paints! (pic heavy)

Post by Denise Cold on Thu Jul 07, 2011 3:44 am

This last Sunday I took courage from your efforts and cut into my paints. My goal, at first, was to have a 4th of July split but I didn't stop there. I'm so happy with the result but I did get a little over excited and had to order some red and white & pink from Metina because I used up my 32s making cakes.

Emma and I have been practicing with them and I used them at a family party and the little girls LOVED my splits over rainbow...amazingly. My niece took some pictures that I'll post when she gets them up.

What I'm enjoying is having 3 color split choices in each rainbow too. There's gold and wineberry together, then wineberry and pink and then pink and white.

I made my peacock split cake with the pearl bronze too and have loved it. I was surprised how much paint the little splits use though...wow! We made up a pretty peacock design with it that I think Emma and I will make a video of because she helped me re-design the body of the peacock.

I've got my first night at a city promenade/farmer's market tomorrow and I'm excited to use the new sets.

I'm including some pictures of my cakes and then some photos of peacock little feathers and the black and white roses I did with my skull cake...which makes great sharks! (basically a big magpie). Guess what cool thing my Christmas cake makes....watermelon!

Thanks for the inspiration you fellow cake makers.

D.

We've redone the body on this...I'm excited to show you.

I am so tempted to order a whole lot of paints just to split them... I have filled up my cart so many times. (I don't know if the husband will be too happy after my last $300.00 arty cake order Wink )

The look wonderful! So many pretty colours!!

And I love the roses down the arm!!

Daizy - just tell him that he can play with them too!

Nice work Denise! The BW roses are gorgeous. I should try some with my BW split that's just been sitting there...haha. Love the splits!

Doesn't it feel good to have gotten that first batch under your belt? No stopping you now Razz

I know!!!...I was really tempted to buy more cakes to make more splits with my leftovers just because I could...but I stopped myself and said "You've got to at least USE these first!" so I did the sensible thing and ordered some practical paints....

But I've got my eye on the TAG pearls when I make some money! cyclops

I'm with you JBM, the pearls are amazing. I ignore my other paints(those that I have not cut up and made into splits). The pearl red is wonderful for my red face with a spider web around it ('Twisted Evil') and on lips too. I found this 12 compartment tray and removed the nails for my splits. I wish each compartment was a little longer, but its not so deep that I have to use a ton of paint to fill it.

oooo your white roses are fab!! I had an attempt at them with my b/w split awhile ago but was not at all happy with them. I'm inspired to have another try.

Could you make a video-tutorial for your beautiful black&white roses? They're sooo cute and delicate. I love you

ooo I still have to wait to try my hand at this. But it looks yummy. I agree the roses are beautiful! WOuld love to watch a video on how to. I personally like that watermelon- easy design for pic-a-nics. Ha ah! That shark would be popular among the young boys. Lately I been getting TRAINS. Lots and lots of trains.

Would you mind doing sample swips of your splits? The one you have with the gold, berry wine, pink and white is similar to one I was thinking of today at the pool. That one and the one right above it especially look interesting.

Bathing suits are an awsome source for ideas. I texted Suzy about 7 ideas so I wouldn't forget.

Watermelon Butterfly

Post by Denise Cold on Fri Jul 08, 2011 12:58 pm

I used the Christmas cake to make a watermelon butterfly on my face. I assume you could do it with that cute cake that Metina has in the shop. It would look a heck of a lot better on a cute 10 year old...but I liked it.

Roses

I studied the Donna Dewberry tutorial on-line...I wish she would talk more in it but she's done millions of roses and is probably tired of talking about it! Here's the link to the Youtube video:

The black and white theme is a pale imitation of Tash's beautiful rose shoulder design. I want to keep practicing and shoot for this perfection:

I'll try to put something together after this weekend that shows a little more what I do. The way I do it still makes pretty roses and is fast for fairs & such. Here's a couple of little cousins I did yesterday and an arm design in blue I did on Emma to attract business:
