yeah right, I had SF screw me over on a product and they refused... after arguing forever and many unreturned phone calls and emails, they finally said they would send me the right product... Then they never did. I have refused to shop with them ever since.

Haha...your to funny. Actaully Heather contacted me through Facebook and told me she was going to call me tomorrow. So, that was nice.
I was really upset that they smelled so bad. There is no way a child is going to let me paint them with this paint. And honestly, I couldn't stand to use it.
When I called SF today the receptionist told me she gags at the smell as well. She said the manufacturer put some type of perfume in the paints to make them smell. But come on....at this point I would prefer...Old Spice. haha
I will keep you all posted.
Ashley - just wondering if you had any complaints when you used them this past weekend? And did you get use to the smell?

OMG at the jam this week someone had FAB paints. She aired them outside for weeks. And I could NOT stand the smell of the stuff. To be fair, the colors are absolutely STUNNING, gorgeous, and all things wonderful. But, I painted my thigh and instantly had to take it off. I cannot imagine using that anywhere near a child's face (heck, I can't imagine leaning my face in towards a child in order to put the linework on after sponging in FAB as a base). Kids have allergies and sensitivities. What were they thinking when they stuck such a high concentration of perfume into the batches?!?!?

I dont know what they were thinking. It truly is a shame about their customer service. I know there alot of people who try to get free products . But, this is truly legit. They even admitted that the paints are terribley smelling. They should take the rest off the site and demand a refund from the manufacturer themselves and then resend new stock to anyone who complied of the smell. I would even pay the shipping again.

Thanks for the reviews guys. I can't stand the smell of Kryolan, so I know this stinkier stuff would never work with me. Looking forward to news on the new unscented batch. Does that mean they added that smell on purpose? tongue

Yep, they told me a perfume was added for smell. On the back list of ingredients, the last one is: perfum. UGH.
And no where does it say FDA approved. I am wondering about that as well.
So not like SF to sell such an odd product. Especially with their name on it. Just wierd all around. And after getting complaints of the terrible smell, why still sell it? They are just pissing off even more customers.

I left mine out with the tops off for about a week.. and the smell has subsided just a little. But I have not received any complaints about them at all, and I have really enjoyed using my FAB Ocean Shimmer. I can smell it as I am sponging it onto a face, but the kid's haven't complained(and these kids would! they are my regulars and see me every week at this restaurant, so they are like my little buddies.)

I would not sponge it on a design that goes under the nose though, and I wouldn't hold the cake itself near their face.
I've been using it for fairies and butterflies and princesses...

Do I think that the smell is strong and unnecessary? YES. Will it dissuade me from using my Ocean Shimmer that I already bought and paid for? Nope.

BTW-when you mix Ocean Shimmer and Wolfe bright pink, you get a pretty purple!

You are so right. I absolutly love the colours. Some of the prettiest I ahve ever seen. Just cannot wrap my head around that smell. It actually makes my stomach turn.
I have left them outside uncapped for 3 days and tonight I am going to leave them on a cookie sheet surrounded with used coffee grounds. Someone from here told me that coffee grounds absorb smells. So, I am goona give it a try. Sad part is, I don;t drink coffee so I had to snag the used coffee filter from the trash at work. I feel like such a thief. I mean, they are done with the stuff right? haha
I will keep you posted if it works.
And silly me didn;t get the ocean shimmer. I ordered them before your review. It looked really green on the site.

I had the same problem with their FAB liquids. Tried one, would never use another. Also an issue with the smell.

I actually LIKE the smell of Kryolan, to me it just smells like the ingrediants, but the FAB smells like my Aunt Maud... if I had an aunt Maud.

I just ordered 20 more colors yesterday, so I will do a swatch vid of those when they get here. The smell sucks, no doubt, but to me it isn't so bad that I won't continue to use them. I'll be happy when it's gone but I'll use them until it happens.

@Ashley - I just wanted to say thanks for the review. It was really nice to see the paints in action and that Ocean Shimmer looks gorgeous. Can't wait to see the other colors!

I'm unfortunately allergic to most perfume chemicals so I'll be waiting for the unscented batch. So pretty... Sad

So glad to have found the Forum - I went to order a shimmer powder from Sillyfarm (why oh why does no one else supply them???) and saw these tempting new paints...BUT - I learned the hard way that things "on sale" at SF are on sale for a reason!! Now am considering options.

What shimmer powder do you mean? There are lots of retailers of most brands and quite a few small companies that sell their own.

And the way the rest of you are describing your reactions to the smell is my reaction to the smell of Paradise! Rolling Eyes No way I want to be anywhere near the stuff you have!

I was using the Snazaroo powders, but this time around wanted the Ben Nye stuff and really got sick of negotiating all the fake websites. I was able to keep my (massive for me) order down to two vendors.

I looovvve me some coconut, so I love Paradise...but I've found that at least, for those that might object, the smell dissipates nearly completely over time.

Lisa Rickels sells great shimmer powders - http://www.wemakefaces.com/shopmain.html
She blends her own colours too I think. I have some - highly recommend them.

I just got my Ocean Shimmer in the mail yesterday. Usually I'm not to sensitive to smell but I sneezed all evening after opening it. Sad This morning, I painted a couple of streaks on my arm to just see it and I'm stuffing up again! I am really hoping they make some in the future that has no smell. If not, this will be my last purchase of it.

I am going to leave mine out like you did Ashley, for a week and hope it stops smelling so strongly. I am in love with the color and frustrated that I won't be taking it with me on my job tomorrow. Sad

I ordered and received Ocean Shimmer. I like the consistency. If you want the color without the hassle...Snazaroo makes nearly an identical color, I believe it is their electric green. The only difference in color is that the FAB paint is a tinge brighter/bluer. I imagine there might be more a difference in handling properties - haven't had a chance to play.

I rec'd a free sample of the FAB silver 056 with my last order from SF. I LOVE the pigment of this silver and ease of coverage, but I HATE the smell and actually had to remove it from my kit becuase it was so strong. I would definitely be into investing in some more FAB colors IF they ever removed the perfume from the paint. Who wants to go away smelling like "grandma's bra drawer"? Lol

I've recieved a free kit from SF that has the FAB paints in it. I was a bit dissapointed when I realised it was the FAB paints as I have been reading this thread & had decieded to wait until they made a batch without the smell. Straight away I have taken the lids off & sat them out on my back verandah to air, I'm really hoping that the smell does fade away. A slight problem too is that there's no names on any of the paints so I don't know what's what?!?! I'll watch you vid again Ashley & see if I can work the colours out from that. Thanks so much for the review.
