What We Know for Sure
I borrowed the title from Oprah, but I thought it was a good one to head a thread to post those little truisms we know for sure about face painting. Help me make this thread a hoot and helpful, as well, for newbies!
I'll start. What I know for sure about face painting is:
If two pre-teen girls walk up together, they are going to want EXACTLY THE SAME THING on their faces.

If the birthday boy wants spiderman.... You are in trouble because the majority of the rest of the boys will want it as well.
Same with girls, they all want what the birthday girl got!!!

Like! LIKE! And you'd better have plenty of red!
hint: Do the half-mask ones that don't cover the mouth. Thanks, SuzySparkles! that's a great FP name, by the way. I wish I'd thought of it. (My name is Suzanne.)

If a party is themed like zoo animals... you practice really hard on that theme...you will probably not do one face in that theme! LOL

Re: What We Know for Sure
Pink is every girls favorite color.
If a boy is very dark skinned he will always ask for a a black Batman?!
If a girl has super thick bangs she will always ask for a princess crown
Teenage boys want to grow up to be skulls & zombies

LOL!! I haven't done but a handful of gigs and it's funny and very true. I practiced for a long time to do the pixar red car and never got the chance to paint it. It was butterflies, snakes, skulls and spidey.

SO TRUE!
Re: What We Know for Sure
When you're just starting out and have practiced a dozen popular designs, the most adorable little one will come along and sweetly ask you to paint him into something you have NO idea how to create.
A little girl will NEVER say no to glitter.

Little boys will always squish up their eyes, and when you finally get them to relax their closed eyes, there is a sound that makes open their eyes. . . and when you ask them to close their eyes. . .squished up again!
Re: What We Know for Sure
Happy Vickery, that goes one step further -
Little girls hold still when they see you come near their eyes with the sponge (especially if you tell them this is special makeup). Little boys will scrunch up their eyes, turn their heads away from you, or suddenly look up or down!

Well I surely don't have anything to contribute to this thread yet (still in practice mode), but I LOVE reading it! You all crack me up
!
Re: What We Know for Sure
Kids have amazing imaginations/interests and can think of the most obscure thing to ask to have painted.
(For example, this past weekend a boy asked for the second star wars ship...not the first, but the second...then there was a lad who wanted a zebra striped giraffe and a giraffe coloured zebra...or how about the girl who wanted an opossum (not too many of those in Ontario)...)

Re: What We Know for Sure
lately, i have had the toughest looking boys come up and ask for an 'Ink Heart' with pink roses with MOM sprawled across it. Like that tattoo one? I just laugh every time. They pull up there sleeves and grimace like its the real deal. These are 5-8 yr olds mind you.
