You know, I always tell the kids NOBODY gets what the birthday kiddos gets--they can have different colors, variations etc--but never the same (unless the birthday child brought their bestest friend over and requested it for them, which is rare).

Get a little collapsible stool, and always turn toward your paint while steadying your chair with your left hand between children....all of a sudden, parent will see their child safely settled...

For that occasional rude parent who complains about standing in line, sweetly remark that, "I am trying to paint quickly but face painting is optional, it's not required".

Anniel, i love that one! I've had parents having worst tantrum attacks because they've been in line for 10 minutes waiting to get a "FREE" facepainting!!! Parents are far worse than kids sometimes!

Right on, NOBODY complains like a parent who is waiting for a "free" face painting. Almost never happens when they are waiting in line to pay me! LOL

There is a very fine line between a panda face and a zombie face!

I know. I was working at a promo for Kung Fu Panda II, and some of my more wiggly customers looked way more zombie-like than panda! lol

So "squirmy" gets you a zombie, Mon!

- Ariel is always the favorite of the smallest girls with the smallest cheeks!

- Parents are the hardest ones to please.

- A 2 yr old will always rub his or her cheek immediately after they get out of the chair.

- Any animal can be ANY color! So long as it's their favorite color... Very Happy

- Every girl wants to feel like a pretty princess and every boy wants to be a scary monster / superhero I love you

At a party, at least one parent will ask how many days it will last.

Oh my goodness, the Pokeball, why have I not thought to put this on my board? I have stepped on enough of them at my house that I know how popular they are...and so easy! Duh...Thanks Silvercord!

Oh I forgot one -

No matter what your first photo example is - that is what they will want first (usually the sweet little girls that want to be a scary skull!! Smile until they see the rest of the options...)

People are surprised that you painted the pics on your menu. *Sigh*

Models/photographers come out of the woodwork to approach you for a trade-for painting that has been done a dozen times by painters far more talented than you.

I will probably never talk an actual bride into letting me paint the dress on her.

My festival work will never be as good as my practice.

Most kids are happy with whatever you do.

I will always forget to get my nipple covers back the day of the painting.

I must warm-up before painting anything decent.

One will never be completely satisfied with one's set up and organization of kit.

Re: What We Know for Sure

What is it with boys, even big ones, squishing up their eyes and squirming like they're in the dentist's chair and waiting for the needle? I have never had a girl do that, but 8 out of 10 boys just can't cope. Rolling Eyes

There was a boy today (actually, several, but one in particular) who acted like I was injuring him every time I tried to put some paint on his face. He kept turning his face as far as he could from me, complaining and whimpering. He would have been 5 or 6.
Finally I asked him if it was hurting, he said yes. And I said, well I will stop then (I tried to sound genuinely concerned, but I didn't believe him). Of course, the brave soul grit his teeth and decided I could continue. Which took me several more minutes and bumpy line work to complete. Ah well.

Anyway, I digress... here's my contribution:

* There will be a crowd around the hot seat with children loudly guessing what the next design might be;

* There will be small children standing behind you, waiting for you to step back and trip over them;

* There will be parents/siblings/others somehow managing to get between you and your subject or you and your paints, or both. (I've been thinking a 'magic carpet': "this is my workspace and don't step on it" designated area might help with the last 2);

* The average human being is in love with colour

* Some parents will wait in line for up to an hour with their kids just to have them painted for free (and some will threaten to leave the line before they get to the hot seat)

* Some people are sneaky and will push their kids in line

Another one I thought of... if you have an "ugly" design you dislike in your choices - that is the one they will always choose! Hopefully none of us have truly ugly designs but I am sure some of us have those which we would rather not but feel we must to please customers!

...there is always one kid at every party that has to try and pick up the mirror to have a look every time you go for more paint regardless of the amount of times you say 'stay still,you can see your face when im finished'.

...there is always that one kid at a large party that want their 3rd design before others have there 1st and cant understand why i tell them to wait til everyone has one before you can get another one

.... no child can understand at a free event WHY they cant have four things now, one on each cheek and two on their arms. Have they not seen the line up behind and where oh where are their parents!

So true! I've had kids wash their face off at a Birthday party and ask for for a second or third face.

Don't forget the kid at a festival that smudges and sweats a design half off and asks you to fix it even though their are 10 kids in line.
