Share your Favorite Artist

Post by debranewmanart on Sat Jul 09, 2011 4:08 pm

I'm pretty new here and thought it might be fun to get to know you all through your favorite artist. So post a link to your fave artist's work. They don't have to be face/body painters, just someone you enjoy.

Here's a link to my favorite. His name is Phil Lewis and I'm in the process of trying to incorporate the feeling of his work into some designs of my own. He uses few straight lines, but a lot of curly ones. Enjoy!

Hello

I looked at your link and his art is certainly colorful and imaginative and very free.

I have three artists that I truly admire and strive to paint like they do. I truly love to paint seascapes and
These are stunning. Byron Pickering from Oregon has the most amazing seascapes and Joyce Ortner also does.
I also appreciate the late Bob Ross so incredibly much as he worked tirelessly teaching the world to paint. He gave so very many thousands of us permission to try even though we had not considered it possible.
I love teaching painting for the same reason and love to turn people on to it.

I love to paint all things more than just about any other activity.

Blessings to you.

Ooooh, this Phil Lewis is pretty awesome. He could definitely provide some body paint inspiration for me. Thanks for sharing that.

As for me, I don't know of very many artists other than face/body painters, and out of those my favorite is probably Bec Anthony. I just love her style and the fact that she does other forms of art as well.

And Bob Ross! Oh, how I loved watching him growing up.

Actually now I'm inspired to go look up some artists...

Evelyn those seascapes are wonderful. That's the kind of thing I'd like to come home to from a hectic day of working with kids. They are very restful and serene. I watched Bob Ross when I was in college. He made everything look so easy. Too bad he is no longer with us.

Tamara, I discovered Bec recently. I can see why you like her. I'm glad you like Phil Lewis. Not only is he an awsome artist, but his charity work seems to imply he's a really nice guy as well.

Psalmbook, Roger Dean must have painted some of the "Yes" album covers. His work sure looks familiar. Thanks for that!

Phil Lewis has some amazing artwork. I love the bright colors. I also just loved the bubble houses and cob structures posted by Roger Dean!

Yes, the Yes albums! Many think Roger Dean was the inspiration for a lot of the Avatar movie.
Phil Lewis is pretty stinkin' awesome too! I'm really inspired to give it a face/body paint try!

Probably my favorite sci fantasy artist is Michael Whelan
http://www.michaelwhelan.com/

In a darker mood I go towards H.R Giger

But to be honest for more mainstream art I love Van Gogh, I studied many genres of art in college and something about the impressionist, post impressionist and expressionist that just make me feel happy on the inside.

Eva, if I remember correctly Michael Whelan used to paint in a style similar to Frank Frazetta. I seem to remember book covers and the like that he did years ago. I was into Giger when in college. I hate to admit it, but I remember whe ELP came out with the "Brain Salad Surgery" album with Giger's work on it.

Lonewolf, those are very etheral and beautiful. I can see why you are drawn to them. BTW I stopped by your site...your work is awsome...I want to paint like you! Smile

MommaKat, Thanks I think this was a good idea too. I'm having fun looking at all the inspiration!

I'm sure everyone already knows of her, but just in case they dont... I love the art and body art done by Rebecca Anthony aka becxstar. Her blending and line work is amazing!!! I also love the simplicity of art by Lisa Joy Young. Such an inspiration. For non body art I love art by Jack Vettriano and Gary Reef. In fact Gary Reef inspired me to start creating my own mixed media pieces that are now displayed in my home. Great you tube vidoes on all three of these artists. I should warn you though... once you start watching them you can't pull yourself away and may be glued to your computer screen for hours on end with the intense need to create all of a sudden. Or maybe that's just me ?!? Rolling Eyes
