OMG!! Help with proposal...

Post by rthling on Fri Jul 22, 2011 2:40 pm

I got inspired yesterday to start emailing around to schools and event coordinators. So this morning, bright and early, I started sending out feelers to folks.
I got this back from the airshow coordinator:

Diane,

Thank you for your interest in the (***) Airshow, please send me a proposal of
your charges and what percentages you would be giving back to the (***) Airshow, we are an non-profit organization, and all proceeds will be going to
local United Way Charities: (etc...)

Thank you,

Okay, momentary freak out!!
A. I had no idea this event was run by a non-profit. (guess I should research my events better, lol!)
B. I have no idea what to put in such a proposal. (anyone? anyone? Bueller?)
C. I really need to get busy to get my set up looking professional! (currently, I have a table, chair and paints...) I need some signage and a better selection board, for sure!

HELP!!!

My day job is program director for a non profit and I will tell you, we have no budget and I will always try and get something for free, just part of the job Wink We are really good at bargining and bartering!

I would maybe offer either:
1.To give her 30% of what you make if it is a paint per face type gig.
2. You could also offer to waive your fee (or offer half price) if they could do some advertising for you in their publications (for example we have newsletters).
3. Or ask them to pay y0ur full fee, and instead of tip jar, you put out a jar to take donations to the cause.

I am new to the face paint side of this, so I am sure others will have good suggestions. But I just know that non-profits will always try and get a lower rate- if it is a cause you believe in then, I say give them the best break you can. Most likely they can return the favor, it depends on the organization. But if it doesn't fit with your niche and if you wouldn't otherwise donate to them, then I think its fine to just tell them this is your business and these are your rates.

Hope this helps...

Thank you, ParTIA! I did a little more digging and found Perry Noia's website. I used her ideas and submitted a proposal. They accepted the pay per face option, with me donating 30% to the benefit.
I am SO EXCITED!!!
This is a HUGE venue for the area, with global sponsors, so the exposure is amazing.
And I know...
You can die from exposure. hehe!
