Bad batman! lol
Am I the only one who has this problem? I paint a batman and it looks fairly decent. Then I look at the pic later and it is BAD. Like completely crooked and I forgot to create wings on the top so it looks like Batman is drying off from the shower in a big towel, lol. Even my superhero mask which is so simple went all cockeyed on me (granted I had been painting for 7 nonstop hours but still...). Seriously, what is wrong with me that I can't see this while I'm doing it?
How do you remember to keep the proper shape and lines? This is so embarrassing but I need to learn what to do differently... the kids were happy but I know I can give them better than this!

I watched Vi's (sparklingfaces) batman YouTube video a while ago, and I'm pretty sure she shows how to start off with tiny dots to mark where the points will be before you paint any lines. I found it helpful:

Do you remember if they moved a lot while you were painting?
I did a few Hello Kitty masks last week and one little girl was clutching her mom(mom was painted first and sat her in her lap) while I painted her. When I presented the mirror, I realized one side was way wonky. She had moved a few times and I could not get to that side of her face very well. It happens!
Most people don't even notice!
Honestly, I think all 3 are great!

Re: Bad batman! lol
I always visually measure from certain facial features. If the wing comes above the eye one inch on one side, it should be one inch on the other side as well. It's easy to go crooked if you don't pay close attention to your proportions and angels.
Re: Bad batman! lol
Thank you so much gals! Vi's video tute was REALLY helpful - I can't wait to practice now! I'm painting at a party this weekend and hope to get some much better masks going.
The last boy wasn't moving but it was my last face after 8 hours, lol. Both of the batman boys were talking, I remember the middle one was really chatty and his mom was even telling him to stop talking. Definitely makes it more challenging!

Re: Bad batman! lol
I agree that measuring from certain points on their face is very helpful. I think we all get a little lopsided from time to time
Next time, you will watch your placement more closely. Then when you get the pictures back that will be fine, but you'll see something else you think you can make better. Then you will work on that. Bottom line is the kids were happy
Look at those smiles in all of the picutres! They had no idea that it was crooked, they just knew for that moment they were a super hero, and you were the one that helped them become one
Great job!
Re: Bad batman! lol
I'm not sure quite how to explain it.. but I think that it helps that I draw the batman on first and then fill in the line and around the eyes. that way you see what it's looking like as you draw it.
Re: Bad batman! lol
I had that problem, then I changed the design (I got the idea from someone else) and now I don't have any problems. I don't have it in my gallery here but I do on my website.
Re: Bad batman! lol
I like batman, but have a friend who does the ear-ed mask instead when things get busy, since it's easier...you can do it in black with highlights, or blue...
Re: Bad batman! lol
FYI, all kids that want Batman are squirmers... it's a theory & I'm sticking to it!
Re: Bad batman! lol
I seriously got so tired of painting batman and Spidey that I took them off my choices board for a couple of gigs! I also agree with Linda's theory! LOL
Re: Bad batman! lol
I love painting that batman. I paint the circle of the head first just SLIGHTLY above the eyebrows. If you make sure to get the circle of your head low enough the wings can sweep up and out as if flying. I also love the liquid bling around it, it tops it off perfectly. I did one in navy blue with silver bling the other day and the colors were just as pretty. Good Luck!

Hi Saloner! Facebook me at The Enchanted Brush-Angi Mills my gallery is there and I did a little tutorial on myself for you. I look like crap but my kids didn't want their faces painted again today! LOL
