I started using powders such as starblend instead of paint near to the eye area and so far have not had another incident with the tearing. Before then I had a lot of kids tearing with the black around the eyes for the skull or pirate face.

This would make sense, as the eye muscles go to the back of the head. I know this from a chiropractor once suggesting massaging that area to ease headaches behind the eyes.
