Clear Aloe Vera gel

Post by 1HappyNut on Fri Aug 05, 2011 1:13 am

Just wanted to share that after searching and searching, I finally found CLEAR Aloe Vera gel at StupidStore (SuperSt0re).
It seems before that I could only ever find green Aloe gel.

Most people here probably already know where to source it, but for those like me (that want to try their hand at making their own glitter gel) and can't find the clear stuff... Hope that helps!

OK....where have I been? Do you just use regular glitter and add some aloe vera? Does it dry quickly enough? what measures do you use (1 part gel and 3 parts dry glitter???). Where did you get your bottles with the special tips? This seems to give the same effect as liquid bling...very fine with plenty of glitter! Awesome!

Haha... happy I can feed your addiction like this site feeds mine!

I also found that the Paradise glitter is pretty spectacular to work with. And the container was so large, I only had to use half of it to create this glitter gel bottle (pictured above) so that I still had half left over to use as loose glitter for shimmering up those designs. Happy!

Glad to help even one person, after all I have learned here!
If shipping costs are an issue, they sell the bottles, and tips at my local art supply store (Opus) for next to nothing.

I love you

E K-D, yes I just use regular glitter. As for ratios... you'll have to play a bit but I found that the Paradise glitter was so fine and gave great coverage, I only had to use about half of the original container (umm small container, not sure the size?)
[img][/img]

and added just enough gel to get a good consistency, which luckily turned out to be just enough to fill my bottle! I might have been able to get away with less? But I'd never done it before and wanted to have good coverage, without gel-gaps.
It dries completely in about 10 minutes. I can rub my hand/fingers over it (not super hard) without much glitter coming off onto my fingers, so it's there to stay.
It isn't as fine a line without the metal tip. I tried it.
Opus/art supply stores carry the bottles and tips, as does Metina in the Forum Shop I believe, and a number of online stores (Amerikan Body Art) do too.

And I believe it will create the impression of a jewel if used correctly, and not looked at too closely.
Let me know how it goes! Very Happy

I want to clarify that when you say you use regular glitter you mean cosmetic glitter, right? Smile

Yes, YES! Whoops! ONLY cosmetic-grade glitter!! Haha, we all know where 'assuming' can get a person... Embarassed Thanks for pointing that out, Sparklyone!

I meant 'regular' in the sense that it didn't have to be a special type of cosmetic-grade glitter for it to work as a glitter gel. But you're right, that could TOTALLY get misinterpreted. Yikes. That's what happens when you post late at night on nearly no sleep and after a glass (or two) of vino. Coherence goes out the window. Suspect

Maybe there are other levels of specialness for cosmetic glitter that others know about, but I just used Paradise glitter. I have Wolfe glitter as well, but the packaged amount is so small that I'd have to use the entire amount and I'm not willing to do that yet. I'll have to restock first.

On a brighter note, it stayed on all night! I wanted to test it to see what would happen so I wore it to bed. The other two came off (the silver on my inner forearm, and the gold on the back of my hand), but this one (on the top of my forearm) stayed pretty much intact...I think because of the way I sleep/luck o' the draw.

Hahaha. That's funny. I laughed hard at my computer, so darling daughter had to come in and see what was going on.

Yes, it now might look like Tinkerbell's bed... but I didn't really notice. It's laundry day anyways so the first thing I did this morning was pull off all the sheets in our house.
I wonder if my husband went to work with stray glitter (he would have showered, but you know how tenacious glitter can be)! hahaha. That's almost better than the April Fools' trick I played on him last year.

Your avatar gives me shivers! It's very realistic. Did you paint that?

The gel takes about 10 minutes to dry completely, though I didn't really time it. There are products you can buy with it already made, of course. But I didn't have access to any, without large shipping costs.

Did anyone else try this yet? I have been so busy cramming school in, trying desperately to graduate on time, that I have had no time to play with my paints. So I made the glitter gel, tried it a couple of times, and haven't really touched it since. I should do a test run soon and see how it holds up after all this time with no lid (besides the ss tip).

HTH!
