I need to find one, being another Canadian and having a HUGE camping trip/facepainting good time with 20-30 kids every Canada Day long weekend! I've been free-handing them and they are not awful, but wow... a stamp would be SO much better!!

Yeah, my free-hand ones are okay but not so great. The stamp I use is an old Burpo one that I bought, Snazaroo used to carry them but I think they are discontinued now. What's kind of weird is... on the Snazaroo U.S. website they have a great maple leaf stencil, and also a maple leaf and fleur-de-lis combo stencil (the name of it is "Canada" even)... but under the "Order in Canada" page they don't carry it, they don't have most of the stencils actually.

Oddly, even though I have the maple leaf one, it never occurred to me to use stamps! I think I've seen those foam ones in a maple leaf design in the scrapbooking/craft section at WalMart. I'm going to keep an eye out there and at Michaels for another one. I'd like to have them in different sizes for Canada Day. And of course I'll look for other pretty ones while I'm there! Laughing

Euro Disney = probably.

The stuff is licensed for different uses and there are a lot of tattoo makers that don't have proper licensing for what they are selling. I know that Hello Kitty tatts have been pulled in the UK over copyright infringement.

I used to think using any kind of stamp or stencil on any kind of painting, be it face or otherwise, was cheating. Then I talked to a few of the lovely artists on here and they totally set me straight. Nothing wrong with it, saves time, looks awesome, and you totally add your own art and style to it. Love it!

thefacepaintlady...I used to think using stencils or any other quick tool to do artwork was cheating. One of my teachers in art school gave me a different perspective. He felt that doing everything "the hard way" was silly, takes longer and is not necessarily better work. He felt that any way you want to work is fine as long as you are doing the work. I ended up with an A in his class as I recall. Smile

What ever works, espeically when you are talking about business and getting through a long line of kids. Part of the "Art" is knowing how to use what you can find to make it look great!

Beautiful!! I say it's not cheating at all. You already know you could probably paint it by hand if you wanted to, so why not do what you can to make it look great and take less time! In the end, that's what your customers want anyway!

Looks great!!!! I thought this was cheating when I first started but after awhile of doing gigs with tons of kids waiting, it seems practical enough. I'm on my way to my scrapbook stash NOW!!! Thanks for the idea!!!!

I LOVE this idea. I'm always trying to figure out how to do celtic knotwork in my designs and never even thought of all the stamps of it I have! Brilliant! Now I actually have a reason to visit the stamp aisle in Michael's. I always avoid it b/c they are so expensive and I never wind up using them for hardly anything.

I wonder if this would work for glitter tats, too? Stamp the glue instead of stencil? I'm going to try it! Much cheaper than buying a hundred stencils!

Works perfect for my glitter tattos.

The only matter is that I think it last shorter, because the lines are thiner and hold less glitter, but makes your tattos very different from the others.

I don't think you can dip the stamp, I have to paint it and there is only one brand of paint that works with my clear plastic stamps and it is wolfe, you can use a sponge too, works good when the stamp is more solid.

I too just used my scrapbook stamp for a glitter tattoo. I made this stamp years ago. It's an African symbol, Gye Nyame which means "fears no one except God." I can't wait to try my other stamps. Thanks for the ideas. I feel like I need to write a check out to someone! LOL.

Remember to clear the glue inmediatly after each use, othewise would be a mess.I put mine in water and when I have time I clean them with alcohol.

I think it's more like make that check out to Michael's Craft Store... I should just get a stamp with their name on it too.

Really great idea and so resourceful. I see stamps at garage sales and thrift stores all the time as well and usually pass them up. Maybe not the next time!

Stamps, stencils, etc are tools. I think it would be bad if you just stamped someone & left it at that, but if it's part of your artistic design, that's fine. I can't paint a snowflake to save my life & stars always look askew, so stencils are my lifesavers!

my sponge stamp

Post by funnyfacesofct on Sun Sep 11, 2011 5:04 pm

I just stumbled on this subject. I was searching for a great peace symbol stamp last night (while feeling guilty guilty guilty). I wanted to replace a sponge stamp I had made. I have a tie-dye peace symbol and flowers that I do. I was inspired by another artist. I wish I knew who it was I lost the web page I saw it on but accredit my inspiration to her. I cut a peace symbol out of a round sponge. A swipe on any rainbow cake and kind of a wiggly dab on the face, a few flowers, swirls and twirls and glitter and in just a couple of minutes a groovy tie-dyed peace symbol. Teen girls love it. My sponge is getting a bit tattered, I was looking for a denser sponge to carve out but haven't found one I like. I started thinking about using a "stamp" but was thinking like a lot of others that is cheating. I think I have changed my mind. I am going stamp shopping. I think I will start in shopping in my craft stash before hitting the stores ... I am sure I have some somewhere ...

Here is a picture of my peace design in progress. And one of me with a completed design. I am sorry they aren't closer up.

I think its a great and easy way to keep the line going. I HATE doing cheek art. It is much easier to paint a full face than a tiny chubby cheek that of course has a complicated request. A stencil or stamp would make it much easier!
