What is the Rainbow Palette all about?

I've seen some people mention the ''rainbow palette'' and I get the idea this is where a bunch of different colors are lined up in one pot? If so, what is this used for and how is it used? Thanks

The rainbow palette (or split cake, rainbow cake, etc) is as you thought - a combination of colors lined up in one pot that you apply by swiping a sponge or brush down the surface to pick up all colors at once. You can use this technique for an endless variety of designs. We had a split cake challenge a few months ago, so check out the challenge section to see some step-by-steps using split cakes. I mostly use mine for full face butterflies.

Oh WOW! You have just opened up a whole new world to me! I had no idea about this before! How cool! That explains a lot about some designs I have seen now! I'm intrigued! So do you all actually buy different ones or do you make your own, or both? That's fantastic! Thanks so much!

I started out buying them ready-made (www.sillyfarm.com has "arty brush cakes" as well as rainbow cakes on their site) but I recently bought a load of paints and made a bunch for myself. I prefer to choose my own brands and color combos so this works out best for me. It's LOTS of fun, looks great and is a huge time saver!

When I bought my first set of paints, I couldn't stand the thought of cutting up all of my paints. I finally broke down and split all of them except black and white. I love being able to use one color or two on my sponge or brush. Plus cut up two rainbow cakes. Love my new kit. Makes more room in the kit and I put the left overs up for refills.

I was like that with my kit too at first. Every tiny bit of paint was so precious to me! I've gotten a little better about it now, though I still respect how much they cost. LOL
