aaghhhh...My first "real" job

Post by cbeck on Thu Aug 11, 2011 7:09 pm

I just got a call from an acquaintance who remembered I was into face painting....Someone he knows is having a beef-n-beer fundraiser this Saturday and the original face painter dropped off the face of the world. What a Face
I am sooo excited...but nervous! Thank God I finally ordered my paints and have all that ready....but still don't have a completed board for kids to choose from.

Wow....I love painting....why am I freaking out?? I hope I remember how do paint everything...haha
I'm going to be like "spiderman....who's that??" lol

It's like having the first day of school jitters!

Wish me luck....maybe I can get some pictures while I am there.
Thanks!
Celeste

Good for you! Are they paying you to be there or are you doing pay-per-face? Good luck, I've heard that the drunker people are the better the tips so the title of the event is promising. Smile

Good luck! Remember, "the first is the worst" with face painting and cooking crepes. After your first one, your fingers are warmed up and it's smooth sailing.

I know EXACTLY how you feel! My first gig was last Friday, I stressed and freaked and lost sleep over it I was so nervous! I was so worried about my speed, I was worried some kid was gonna ask for something I didn't know how to paint...in the end, it went WAY better than I could have ever dreamed it could go. I could tell you not to stress, but you probably will anyway. Just try to relax and appear cool, calm and collected. As far as not having a board, I didn't either, but I saw a thread about making a word list (actually Ashley, been meaning to tell you yours is AWESOME!)...I found a font for each of my designs and printed them in size 72, cut them out and mounted them on card stock individually, then pinned them to a bulletin board that I have that's about poster size. It took me only about 2 hours from start to finish, and I LOVED that I could simplify the designs or go all out if I had time.
Good luck! Let us all know how it goes! Wink

OOPS...I have no clue how I posted this in balloon twisting...lol-sorry! Embarassed

Anyway- It went GREAT...I completely lost track of how many kids I painted...but my FAVORITE part was this big guy with tattoos all over who wanted a penguin on his nose Laughing He loved it! I had so much fun, made decent money and they hired me for next weekend too!!!! cheers Unfortunately I didn't have time to take any pics while I was there....boo!
Other than that everyone had great comments, gave out a lot of business cards and the guys running the lodge want to bring me back for future fundraisers and holiday parties!

I put my board together using the pvc tutorial that was on the forum and printed about 30 pics at the local CVS, cut them up and used double sided tape to mount them on my "free" vista print banner that had just come in the mail on Wednesday...talk about perfect timing.-total cost for all the pieces probably around $25 bucks or so.. I also went and purchased my fat max the day before which I completely I love you !
I will try to post some pics later today of my setup....baby is crawling around right now so I can't open it all up!

Thanks everyone for the encouragement!
