G'day from Down Under!
Thanks for letting me join your forum, i have been lurking for a couple of days and have been browsing through some of the galleries and reading your posts. So high time to say g'day and introduce myself. My name is Cristel and as my username would suggest I have 4 kids, all girls who all absolutely love to have their faces painted. I have taken it upon myself to learn how to do some facepainting, but am an absolute novice. I like to dabble a bit in all sorts of different crafty things, so why not facepainting too! Well as i discovered its not as easy as some of you make it look
, so i am open to any and all advise!
Unfortunately i started off with the Derivan paints, as i had bought Chantal the Fairies book. I absolutely love her designs, but so wish i hadnt invested in the paints. The paints are great for spongework, but i found them difficult to master for finer detail, as i found the paint separated on either side of the brush, especially the neon colours. However not all is lost, i will use them for sponging and large sections of colour. I have now invested in some of the Snazaroo cakes and also some of the Mont Marte ones and even though i am new, i have to say that i have been really impressed with the Mont Marte face painting cakes. They are smoother than my Snazaroo, the only thing i have found is that they tend to stain a litttle (the yellow in particular) but so do some of my Snazaroo, i am fair skinned and maybe i just stain easy, but normally a little of my oily make-up remover gets rid of it fully. I so wish that some of the brands they have in the US were more readily available her in Oz, i think the next stuff i invest in will be TAG, cause i love the split cakes. Living in Far North Queensland we dont have much choice
Anyway on a happier note, i am looking forward to chatting with you all and making some new friends with the same interest.

Re: G'day from Down Under!
I said Hi to you on another thread but Hi again!
I'm heading up to Brisbane in a couple of weeks and am very jelous that you aren't freezing up there like us down here!
I think you will be impressed with the amount of retailers you can find in OZ - they just hide very well.
Most of them have online shops with awesome overnight shipping fir people like me that leave everything to the last minute.
Amy Grigg, Always wicked Art an Making Faces - all of them have everything you need an more.
I can't recommend Mont Marte as it is relatively new - but as a general rule in OZ anything that you can buy in a craft or art store is crap.
Derivan has issues with drying out on the skin and cracking and staining not only skin - but clothes as well.
Snaz is good - a great place to start out and is pretty cheap to get hold of.... I know they sell it in Ekersley's Art store here so it breaks the golden artstore rule of everything being crap.
There are some fantstic artists here that get wonderfull results with Snaz.
I use Paradise by Mehron and Tag - the Paradise has to come from the USA so it's expensive here - Tag is much cheaper - I just loooove my paradise !
Feel free to Pm me and I will give you heaps of info to help you out and get you started.
... Oh and by the way - about your girls loving the face painting - ENJOY IT WHILE IT LASTS!!! - it won't be long before you are chasing them around with a paintbrush begging and bribing them to let you paint them.
Welcome to the group I hope you enjoy your time here.

Thank you everyone for your warm welcomes. A special thanks to Tash for her wonderful information. I think i will be buying TAG from now on, everyone seems to rave about it, so when i have some money to spare, i will definately be getting some of that, especially the split cakes, so looking forward to having a play with those. In the meantime i will read, read, read to get as many helpful hints and tips as i can : )
