Are you an artist?

Post by summers4seasons on Wed Aug 17, 2011 6:06 pm

I took my paints to the park today to doodle practice while the kids played. The next thing I know my son has rounded me up a line of kids to paint! Hahaha! I have only done a couple parties for friends before, but figured I would do it. I did personally speak to the parents for permission first. I did 4 butterflies and 1 spiderman with half my kit in 40 minutes, including taking the time to wash the sweat off of each little face first. Not super fast, but getting there.

So when I was packing up I had one little girl ask me, "Are you an artist?". Hmm, well I guess I am. Yes, yes I am. LMAO! I have never done any other type of art and can't draw to save my life (not that it keeps me from trying), so I did have to think about it. But there you have it, I am an artist.

Awesome story!

I get the, are you an artist, question all the time. I guess it's like asking a clown if they are a real clown Wink LOL

Yes, you are an artist with your own medium called face paint Wink Some people are sculptors, some are crafty, and others can draw, but we are all artists! Smile

Very cool, reminds me of my favorite Picasso story:
Picasso was painting in a park and a lady approached him and recognized him as who he was. She said you must paint my portrait! Picasso agreed and painted one stoke on a paper that perfectly caught her essence.
The lady was thrilled with the picture and asked how much it would cost to purchase. Picasso replied it costs 5000$. The lady was beside herself with exasperation. She asked how could it cost so much, it only took a couple seconds to complete?!
Picasso replied, madam, it has taken my whole life to paint this....

Love the Picasso story!

I get the question all the time. And I answer, "well of course! I'm painting arnt I? ". And then they ask if I went to art school. And I did, but that's now why I'm a face painter! Usually the bottom line is kids think I have the coolest job ever, and want to know how to do that when they grow up. I tell them to draw and doodle all the time, and take every art or crafty class they can.

BTW- love your name, Summer. It's my oldest daughters name!

I'm a landscape and portrait painter (see avatar pic) as well as a drawing teacher and I worked for 11 years as an art director, but I don't call myself an artist around adults. I feel it's a bit arrogant, like calling myself a "genius".

But around kids, yeah. I'm an artist. lol Very Happy
