Stencils - how many people use them and what for?

Post by Creations on Thu Aug 25, 2011 5:31 pm

I am wondering how many fp's use stencils and what ones they use. I was thinking of them as an addition to a face that been painted eg spiderman, but add a stenciled sipder in. But obiously to keep the time down, other wise you could paint it. Or extra nice things for a bling mask?? anyway just thinking out loud...what do you guys do?? yah or ney

I use the tire track one for a fast boy design. I use snowflakes to enhance a winter mask. I'm not big into stencils just because I always forget to reach for them, but they do speed up a lot of designs.

Where do you find the tyre track stencils?

I have just ordered a snake skin, a scale, and a swirly design stencil. After watching a Lynne Jamieson tutorial on Youtube, I had to have them. They looked great. I guess time will tell if I end up using them much.

I think that the tiretracks I have are from Snaz.

I call mine "road kill"

I have to get a snowflake, my freehand snowflakes stink!

I was asked to help "beef up" the volunteer 4th of July face painting for our little city, it is a long tradition, and there was no possible market for me at that event, so I trained the volunteers, and showed them what to buy instead of the crappy crayons. I got them several stencils to work from, and some patriot rainbow cakes with the pouncers, and they were able to crate the four desings with minimal free hand and easy, easy on the fly training. I just set up my table, with a sign that said "trained by...my business name" and had my cards.

There are good ones everywhere, I like them to be smaller, it takes more practice to use a large stencil well.

I really want some Bad A** stencils after watching that tutorial too but having trouble justifying it. But I REALLY want them! I have scales and love the effect so I think it would be awesome.

I have some scale stencils and I have a couple soccer ball stencils. I don't use the soccerball (it's just a pia for me) and I sometimes remember to use the scales...sometimes.

I don't use any but ooohhh...scales and snake skins?! I just might have to try those! That would be such a great way to get a quick texture! Never thought of that. I've always seen then used as the whole design.

OH my, Daizy, I just checked out the Lynne Jamieson tutorials and went to istencils and got some too...so cool! Thanks for the inspiration...I can't wait to try them out! My view on stencils as "cheating" is totally changed. ;-)

I used them more when I first started painting faces. It's a quick easy newbie thing.

I recently, purchased some from Walmart, but haven't tried them out, yet. I just feel like I'm cheating! Laughing I mean, plopping on a stencil even a kid can do that. tongue

Lynne's design is very pretty though! Very Happy I love the different layers and her strokes are very pretty to watch!

I like to paint my animal prints spots by hand. I do a few masks that would go fasterwith a stencil, but I don't use it. I don't mind doing some stencils for maybe a charity, but not for a birthday party. I'm getting paid for my art work. I feel like I should be free handing it Smile

I got the fairy stencils from Metina. I find them a little difficult to use as they are a soft floppy kind of vinyl. I say "they" because I cut the sheet apart into individual fairies, I do find them easier to handle that way. I like them and they are pretty quick to use, they are just a little tricky to get the hang of. The Bad A** ones look stiffer.

These pictures inspired me to get the fairy ones, they are both by the remarkably talented Ezia Leach of "Z" Face and Body Art:

I repeat, these are NOT my pics... just inspirational to me!! She makes it look effortless and perfect... I'm not that good!
