Not liking white line work

Post by Creations on Sat Aug 27, 2011 6:53 pm

I had a birthday party for my daughter Zara -3, great time and I got to paint the kids that came. I havent painted kids other than my own and suprisingly they sit still for a lot longer than mine do!! which is great but I did have work quicker as I wouldnt yell at them like I do to my kids - SIT STILL lol. So I think I dont like the line work but at least it was really good experience for me. And I havent painted on diffirent skin tones before either..I am not liking the white outline, but what colours work well for darker skin? Gold maybe?? And I forgot spidermand white eye... and the tigers white eyes LOL never mind the kids were happy!!

Here are the pics.. and I am so stupid I did my own face and I looked beautiful for the party and I forgot to take a pic confused

It looks like they were having so much fun! I painted at my daughter's birthday party. . .I didn't get to do anything else so I don't think I'll try that again. Having hubby in charge of other stuff made me nervous. . .he's not quite the perfectionist that I am.

Oddly enough, I really like a black outline on darker skin tones, I really like how it isn't quite as harsh on darker skin, and if it isn't standing out as much as I want, I do a few super thin white highlights to help it pop Smile I do white outlines too, but sometimes they are too strong for me.

I really like your iron man! I need to try one of those Smile

I did a small eye butterfly on a little girl and because she was young I did white liner and I hated it. Compared with the same butterfly I did on my daughter it looked very amateur.

I'm switching to a medium blue or something on little kids, something that will wash off but still not have the show-through like white.

okay, so I had just been thinking the same thing...when I make white lines instead of black or white swirls in designs they never look near as good as the black Sad I think it MAY be my technique though...too much pressure? too much water? my brushes? something...

i like to use my pearl purple on little girls as an out line no where near as harsh as black. plus silver is great for darker skin and doesn't seem to go on as streaky looking. hope this helps Smile

I find wolfe white the best for linework. And finding just the right brush too.. I tend to use a fine tipped round #1 for my highlighting...

Thinner lines will help. I paint quite alot of darker skins and use both black and white. Use your arms and thighs for practise and you will get that control. I'm using Wolfe and TAG.in white and DFX and Wolfe in Black.

I like black line work more then white.

I love painting on dark skin! It's my favorite for bright colored butterflies Smile I just outline in black and use white dots to accent.

I like Wolfe and I use to like DFX until their recent problems. I just played around with my white TAG and I'm really like it! It's thick so I need more water. I was testing it on my hand and noticed it can rub off(with force) if you apply it too thick. I'm surprised that I like it as much as I do! flower

Pilareta, I feel your pain (my son has ADHD & Aspergers), he's *high functioning*, and supper intelligent... but, is very particular about many things!

I've only recently got to paint him using more than two colors (main, outline). I felt like I'd won a war! *L*

I love white outlines on young children's rainbow painted faces. Also, purple, and wine colors look great, depending on what the outside color is.

- To no one in particular -

have ya'll seen how Rebecca (i can't remember her last name) does it?

She will sponge on rainbow cakes (various color blends) and use a small split cake to outline with. It looks wonderful, without having to be so... detail oriented.

here is one of my favorites of hers.. she sponged on color, then used a small split to outline.

There are SO many talented artists here. I spend a lot of time going through the member list... thinking that maybe "someday" .. *s*

Cotton Candy...that's the problem I had with TAG white. I was great for sponging but my line work would crack and flake unlike their other colors that you could rub and rub and wouldn't come off.

Maybe I'll still have to get TAG white for sponging (skulls, tigers) and then keep DFX for linework. Did we ever find a source for Wolfe White or is it going away?

Denise, I'm going to give the TAG a few more tries.

It makes great dots! I only used it on simple accents, not a lot of line work. It stayed on fine. I remember you saying it cracked and flaked. The bit I put on my hand(test before I paint on the face for consistancy) I played around with it. It took longer to dry, but it was thicker. It was sticky for longer, but that can be an advantage for glitter application. I then started rubbing it and noticed it was starting to rub off.

The two designs I used it on, my kids wore for several hours with no flaking. I need to use it more for a full review. I guess as long as you don't rub it or pick at it , it will be fine. Most faces don't last more then an hour or two at Birthday parties anyway! LOL
