First attempt at freehand glitter tattoo

Post by By These Hands on Wed Aug 31, 2011 3:12 pm

My kids wanted some glitter tattoos last night and I decided to try my hand at freehand glitter tattoos. I think I need to use a smaller brush next time. I felt like I did not have alot of control with the glue on the brush. What size brush do you guys use?

Pretty!

I've tried free-hand.. and, well.... it_wasn't_pretty!! Mad

I can't get the lines to be uniform, nor as narrow as I would like.

I'm fair certain that Henna would be out for me as well.
(me - there, now, that's not TOO bad, is it?
customer - not if you like squiggly lines that vary greatly in width and look NOTHing like the picture... "said dryly")

ahem...

It would pay me to get the money BEFORE doing the ... ah... art.

I too admire the color of your glitter. Please share. I also stink at the freehand- but I think that has to do with my aplicator. If you use a paintbrush what do you do> just jam it down in the tube?

Geekophile, I have two little containers that I keep my white and black in (dippy something.. metina thought it up in a post long ago)... I took another just like those as it's got a good seal and put some glue in it to use on gems/etc. I used it to apply my glitter (failure... totally the artist.. Shocked ).
When I bought the glitter I also bought more of the glue 4oz I think... no, I bought it separate.. from SillyFarm.
It works great. Small, and the lid seal is tight!

I think that I got the little clear plastic containers at Hobby Lobby.

I like the glitter colors too! I'm thinking about starting glitter tattoos, but havent' decided, and I don't think I will be doing them free hand. It seems like it would be difficult to get it look like you want.

Thanks. I have a combination of Glimmer glitter and Tulip. I bought the Tulip packet from Michael's. I believe the pink is from the Tulip pack.
I just kinda stuck my brush in the bottle. I like the idea of putting the glue in a different container. After the first dip, the handle of my brush was sticky from the glue...a HOT mess. I think I may just throw the brush away because I can't get the glue off. Maybe I waited too long to wipe it off....Ahhh well..ya live and learn.

That's what I thought would happen, the glue would get all gummy on the handle and start chunking everything up. Good idea for the dippy pot. I have to scoot on over to Michaels anyway. Very Happy

You should be able to clean the brush using alcohol, just in case you want to save that brush. ;-)

Here's a whole thread on free hand. I found a cool tool that is good for doing line type tattoos. I also love using a tiny square brush and making calligraphy names. You should be able to find 99% alcohol at a local pharmacy that will clean brushes. I use an olive jar with a little at the bottom to hold my brush and clean it.
