A belly pricing question ??

Post by FUNFACTORY on Thu Sep 01, 2011 11:06 am

Wondering what to charge for belly painting? I have a request for one that has a photo session scheduled - the photographer wants to take photos before paint - so I will be painting at the studio. I have only charged for one -only $50 for over an hour of painting - my normal rate is $100/ hour - how do you charge??????
Thanks-

I charge $80 for a belly painting and tell them it will take about an hour to an hour and a half. However, it would have to depend on the detail of the design. If it were something that went beyond that time I would have to charge $40 for every half hour after. But , my hourly rate is $80 so, I'm doing close to that.

If you are getting $100 an hour I think $50 would be low. I'm new at the belly painting thing too and charging is new water for me also.

I'm new to bellies too...just painted two of my relatives so I haven't charged yet. I'm thinking of $100 for up to an hour of painting, and then I'll take photos after that too which would be included in the price. I'm thinking I'll charge my regular face painting rate for additional time...I normally charge $60 for my additional-hours-after-the-first-hour charge for face painting. So, that makes the math easy at $1 per minute over an hour! You also have to think about the extra time that you may put into a belly painting that you don't put into a face painting gig....like time spent beforehand working with the mom-to-be on a design idea, especially if you are sketching it out to show her, etc. Then I spend up 1/2 hr to an hour just editing the photos I took, so in the end I'm making way less still! But they're so FUN! ;-) I think I may give a little discount though if they come to me, because that saves me lots of time and gas too!

I'm a little more than my hourly rate... but they are paying for design time too, like Gretchen said.

I have a 2 hour minimum. (Belly only) I charge them my hourly rate. What ever that would be in your area.

I charge my hourly rate. I just started offering $35 bellies, but they are done inside my home and only take 10 minutes to paint. My new market is really poor so I designed them to be affordable for the average mom.
