painting at a booth to help draw attention to the exibit

Post by Tasha on Thu Sep 08, 2011 6:36 pm

ok I'm really new at this kind of thing. I have face painted at my own booth and was paid by the hour. They sold tickets for face painting and gave me a tip jar. Now if your going to share a booth with an exhibitor and they want you to paint to draw attention to their booth should they also be paying you by the hour or for the day??? we are still in negations and they keep mentioning they've paid for the booth, free advertising, and a tip jar. lol I've never made this kind of deal how should i go about it. they've asked me how do we book it and guarantee you will paint for us that day. I was under the impression I was painting for tips and exposure. But, of course i want to get some money out of it if I can.

Last year I did something similar with a vendor selling hair bows and skirts for little girls. But we still did a per face charge. Keep track of your faces, if you can, or keep money separate. it went well, we were both beneficial to each other. But I am just not a fan of working a booth for 8 hrs and dealing with $ in small increments.

I've got one like that coming up this weekend... they paid the booth fee, set up tent, etc. I'm charging pay-per-face.

The way I see it, they can pay you per hour so their customers don't pay, or you charge the customers. You are a business that needs to make money.

Thanks ladies. Griffinblue keeping track of heads is tough any suggestions on that? JBax I was thinking the same I feel better thanks. That was what I explained to them. So I'll see how it goes. I guess it's all a learning process. It sure feels great to know there is someplace to turn to for advice like this forum. Thanks again.

If someone wants me to paint at THEIR booth they pay my hourly rate and I paint "free" to attract people to their booth.

"Sharing" a booth has a different meaning to me - it means a split of expenses and PPF profit. I don't do that.

Yeah, the other exhibitor is paying you if you're painting customers for free. Actually its not a bad little deal if you can get it.

My very first ever clown gig was a weekend long deal at a small fair. A fraternal group...I think it was the Oddfellows, hired us to paint all weekend in and in front of their "bacon on a bun" tent. (do you guys in the States do bacon on a bun?)

Anyway, we were the hit of the fair and were back every year for quite a while.

I agree with Shannon---maybe I don't market well enough for PPF, but I'd rather have fun and not stress about the biz side.
