Resurrecting an old thread...
I seem to remember a while ago somewhere on here someone mentioned the idea of using Altoid mint containers.
I was searching online and found a place that sells these tins (sliding lid) and they will even customize them for you... With a minimum order of 5,000... Shocked Crying or Very sad
Then I remembered I had a mint container. It turns out it is identical. For those considering a magnetic setup (thanks, Lady Jayde!), this would be a great one-stroke case.
So I guess a bunch of mints are in my near future! lol

Here is a picture with the lid removed, compared to a Paradise split cake.

What a great idea! What kind of mints did that container come from?

Ooh, all great ideas! I'm just worried about using snaz to make splits... I heard somewhere that the paint eats through plastic...

It came from these mints:

Whoops! HUGE!

If I remember correctly, they came with different sayings on the front. It looks like they are called "Little i" mirrored mints.

I found them on Amazon in several different colours (flavours), here:

Unfortunately, the black is currently unavailable at first glance. Bet it could be found elsewhere though.

Here is another photo to give a relative size comparison. The tin has a half-sponge inside.

Also... I wonder how the Altoids Smalls container would work for a rainbow cake...? Anyone tried?

Excited for my order to come!

Just a thought but metal containers are better conductors of heat and on a hot day might not be the ideal container. You might want to try a test before putting everything in metal. Plus you want to make sure that what you are using is rust proof which pretty much means being mostly aluminum which means non-magnetic. Just a thought.

I happened to remember somebody's paints melting due to heat. That would be a bummer. My paints are like my babies!

The Altoids smalls container has little itty bitty holes where the hinges are...so I don't think they'd work that well. But the sliding lid ones ROCK!

Help!

Post by jazziesfaces on Thu Mar 08, 2012 6:23 pm

Oh wow. I'm going to be making my own one stroke cakes when my diamond fx paint arrives, I'm so glad I just found this idea of yours,

've tried to look up so many things, after seeing this post, such as "pin boxes".. or "small transparent containers", but I can't find these anywhere, could you help? Do you know of anywhere online where I could possibly find these?

I am from the UK, I will go shopping on Saturday and see if I can find anything!! Sad

Please help!! <3 I'm 18 and I've only been doing facepainting for less than a year! Very Happy x

yay - this thread has officially saved my kit! I'm a sewer and crafter so I have oodles of those boxes and to think I never even gave them a second glance! I've also tossed soo many in the trash!!! Shocked

My kit right now is consisting of mostly smaller square boxes that I found at michaels in the beading section. They are 1.5 inches square. I find that I mostly like to use the one stroke brush as opposed to a sponge anyway so I invested a bit in a nice, large 1.5 inch flat brush (also have a 1 inch and 1/2 inch for smaller stuff). BUT I found that I can also squeeze my sponges together and make them fit into my smaller boxes. When they stretch back out they are still loaded with plenty of paint. Thought I was going to be making duplicate cakes - a big rainbow I can use with the sponge. I still might for ease but for now I really don't think I need to at least until I get a better technique with the sponges.

Another thought - you know those boxes you get paper clips and push pins from the office supply store? Same as the sewing pins! So if you need some office supplies too...

I found some great pin boxes at Michael's that I used for my homemade rainbow cake, but any sewing or craft shop or even dollar store should have little boxes of pins.
