Trouble with leaves

Wondering if any of you seasoned painters have any tips on painting leaves?

I find that I do a lovely flower mask etc, but when I go to put a leaf on the flowers they look terrible! they don't seem to be in the right spot and tend to look like they are just green stripes rather than coming out from the behind the flowers (if that makes any sense?!)

Any tips on the placement of leaves on flowers or techniques??

I cant remember the specific titles but I learnt leaves and a bunch of other stuff from watching some youtube videos.
