Re: Anyone tried the BAM stencils?
Rebecca what is the stencil technique? I always seem to get too much paint or too wet of paint on the sponge and the paint runs everywhere. Yours almost looks airbrushed!

Re: Anyone tried the BAM stencils?
thanks you guys;)
actually, the orange is the tiger lilly arty brush cake
i sponged it on her eyes, and then used a brush for the crown
i know you can get BAS t from silly farm, or bad naughty word stencils . com
when i was at fabaic, yolanda from body fx was using them in the vendor room....and, i was also working the vendor room. so she spent some time showing me how she uses them for face painting.
Andrea O'Donnell is the artist that makes BAS....i think i bought just about all of the minis...i love them. i have to remember to use them more!
metina...i use a smoothie blender...that is almost dry....like when you blend with a brush with very little water. too much water..and, you'll have a mess;)

Re: Anyone tried the BAM stencils?
Okay, I may be the only one, but I do not like the idea of stencils. If I were paying an artist to paint my daughter's face, I would be so saddened if he/she pulled out a stencil. I may be a minority, but please keep it in mind

I hear ya Barbie.
I think they have their place in airbrushing but I don't think people would be as impressed as they usually are with my work if they saw me using stencils.
I think the percentage of "ahhhh I could do this so easily" will rise dramatically.
Although my opinion is open to change.

Re: Anyone tried the BAM stencils?
I think it's more about what *else* you do (with or without stencils) that makes for the wow - I use stencils a lot (airbrush) - and I've had maybe twice (or three times) in all the years where someone has commented within my hearing about how "easy" it must be with stencils. Once there was a long long long line (like 40 people) and they'd only been waiting 7 minutes apparently - so they were very positive about the speed we were taking people. Once was a child of about 10 (there was no line) so I offered to let him try one on me till someone else came - several minutes later I had to stop him because I had 3 people in line and he hadn't yet been happy with what he'd done on me.
If you make it look effortless (brush work, sponge work, split cakes, rainbow cakes, stencils, stick on gems) it seems easy, but it's all about the end result - can you put together something that is as unique as the individual (and what they want), yet appears spectacular? You practice - you buy tools - you practice with those tools - anyone can buy those same tools and practice, but are they going to? and are they going to be able to get the same results?
I post over a hundred different stenciled pictures (which I customize on the fly with combining or colour or backgrounds or hand drawing in something) - I carry close to a thousand stencils with me regularly - and I can do unique non-stencil work with a brush or even an airbrush (just shielding or keeping close and PSI low). It lets me do fast consistent work, with tons of variety - and lots of "wow" factor.
Coming back to the original question - I have not used that brand of stencil (I'm on a stencil buying moratorium), but I love stencils in general, and agree that the name is rather off putting.....

Re: Anyone tried the BAM stencils?
I think they are awesome, I haven't used them yet but have a few similar ones from the craft store, haven't really used them but I'm not againt them. I kind of want the outside shape stencil for the mask, would help with my symmetry and make me about 20x faster.
Re: Anyone tried the BAM stencils?
hi you guys,
i agree with noella,
i've seen many world class face painters incorporate stencils into their work.
it's another tool to help add that WOW factor....
infact...sometimes, it's the thing that makes the most impact.
a few of the painters i know that incorporate stencils:
the wolfe brothers, nix hererra, marcela, mark reid, rebecca, yoland of body fx, georgette pressler, alex hanson, lymari, lawren alice, andrea...
i'll include a few pictures...

Re: Anyone tried the BAM stencils?
I saw Yolanda using them at IMATS and bought a few minis with body painting in mind, I've been skeptical of stencils as I agree with some of the comments above that it makes people think they could do it too. I haven't been painting heaps recently but was staying at a house with a very wriggley 4yr old last week that loved to be painted but just wouldn't hold still and so when she asked for a rainbow dragon I used stencils to make it quicker and really liked the result
